Deidre Willmott

Deidre Willmott is a former Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia.^[1] Prior to becoming Executive Chairman of Cannings Purple Strategic, Wilmott was Communications Director of External Relations for the Fortescue Metals Group.^[2]^[3]

Early life

She was born in Bridgetown, Western Australia, and studied law at the University of Western Australia.^[4]

Career

As a student, Willmott elected was President of the University of Western Australia Student Guild, the second female since its founding in 1913.^[5]

Willmott was admitted as a legal practitioner in 1986.^[4] After working as a commercial lawyer she was General Manager of the 2006 Commonwealth Games between 2003 and 2006.^[4] Willmott was the executive director of the Western Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry between 2006 and 2008.^[4]

She was the Cabinet Secretary and Chief of Staff for two Western Australian premiers, Richard Court and Colin Barnett between 2008 and 2010. In 2008, she withdrew as the Liberal candidate for Cottesloe in the 2008 state election, after Barnett decided to rescind his earlier resignation.^[4]^[6]^[7]^[8]^[9]^[10] Following that, she initially accepted an offer by Liberal Party figures to succeed retiring Senator Chris Ellison,^[11] but that position was eventually filled by Chris Back.

Willmott was the initial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting state director 2011 for Perth.^[9]^[12]

Personal life

She married a fellow UWA student Michael Lishman.^[13] She is the deputy chairman of St Hilda's Anglican School^[6]^[14] and board member of the Senses Foundation.^[6]

The Town of Cottesloe is a local government area in the western suburbs of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. John Andrew Henry Forrest, nicknamed Twiggy, is an Australian businessman. He is best known as the former CEO of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG), and has other interests in the mining industry and in cattle stations.

Liza Mary Harvey is an Australian politician who was the Liberal Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 2008 to 2021, representing the seat of Scarborough. She was a minister in the government of Colin Barnett, and in 2016 was appointed deputy premier, becoming the first woman to hold the position. She became leader of the opposition after being elected unopposed to replace Mike Nahan as state Liberal leader on 13 June 2019. The north shore of Perth Water on the Swan River frontage to the city of Perth in Western Australia has been frequently changed since the arrival of Europeans in 1829. Professor Lynda (Lyn) Dent Beazley is a neuroscientist and educator based in Perth, Western Australia. David John Honey is an Australian politician who has been the Liberal Party member for the electoral district of Cottesloe in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly since 2018. He was leader of the WA Liberal Party from March 2021 until he was defeated in a leadership spill in January 2023, and was previously the Shadow Minister for Industrial Development, Water and Lands, and the Liberal Party's Legislative Assembly Policy Co-ordinator.

The western suburbs are an informally defined group of suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, located west of the city's central business district and north of the Swan River. The western suburbs are well known for high incomes, high house prices, riverfront mansions, private schools and proximity to ocean beaches.
