The Delray Beach Public Library is an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)3 library located in Delray Beach, FL in Palm Beach County, FL. [1] The library is funded through public and private partnerships and is not a part of government. [1]
On April 11, 1913, 40 women from the Ladies Improvement Association of Delray Beach met and each donated one book to start a library in Delray Beach, FL. [2] In 1916, the library was moved to the Booster Hall. [2] Additionally, the Ladies Improvement Association received a ten dollar gift from Henry Flagler to support the library. [2] In 1939, the Delray Beach Public Library officially became a not-for-profit corporation, a 501(c)3 library. [3]
In 1940, the Delray Beach Public Library Association cultivated a public private partnership between the City of Delray Beach and the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). [3] In 1950, after community fund-raising the library was moved to SE 4th Avenue with 15,000 books in circulation. [3] In 2006, the Delray Beach Public Library was moved to its current location at 100 W. Atlantic Avenue. [3]
At 46,826 square feet and two stories, the current library building is twice the size of the original. [3] The first floor houses new materials, self-checkout machines, audiovisuals, periodicals, the circulation desk, and the children's department. [4] The meeting rooms, also on the first floor, seat up to 200 people. [4] The Lynda Hunter and Virginia Kimmel children's library also features an audio recording studio and a technology lab with 3D printers. [5] The second floor has a computer training technology lab, 40 PCs for public use, a personal charging station, the Tower Conference Room, the Young adult room, quiet study rooms, and the Reference department. [4] The young adult and adult non-fiction, reference, biography, and older fiction collections can be found on the second floor as well. Wi-Fi is available to the public throughout the library. [4]
Current residents in the state of Florida can receive a free library card. [4] The Delray Beach Public library has over 2,000 visitors per day. [6] The Delray Beach Public Library provides free information and resources which include printed books for all ages, audio books, large print books, magazines, foreign language materials, music CDs, videos, DVDs, as well as free access to the Internet, electronic databases, proctoring services, art exhibits, concerts, a Lifelong Learning Community Institute, computer instruction, homework help, and job search assistance. The library also offers services that cater to different age groups. It provides library story times that encourage early literacy in children and offers special after school programs and STEM classes that are centered on a child's interests. [8] Teenagers have the option to take advantage of the volunteer opportunities the library has to offer throughout the year where they can earn community service hours, skill enhancement, and career readiness. [9] The Summer Leadership Academy is among the skill enhancement programs that help teens develop fundamental characteristics in leadership. The seven-week program highlights a targeted characteristic from a selected collection of books. [10] Teens can also use Brainfuse in order to receive live tutoring and test prep information. The library supplies adults with volunteer opportunities as well, and provides opportunities for lifelong learning, community connections, and civil discourse. The library regularly hosts special events and programs for adults, which include yoga, Socrates Café, and adult coloring club.
In addition to in person, online, email and telephone assistance, library members can also Book-A-Librarian to get one-on-one research assistance.
The Information Services Department is equipped to proctor print or online examinations, based on availability, for distance learners.
The library's Interlibrary Loan service offers library members access to materials from other libraries if they are interested in an item the library does not own.

Sharing the same floor with young adults, the books for adult readers are specifically organized by the Dewy Decimal System for nonfiction titles and the author's last name for fiction and biography. The extensive special collection of mystery fiction has classic to the modern and in-demand titles of the year. The Palm Beach County Library System is the public library system of Palm Beach County, Florida. Its headquarters, the Main Library, is located in an unincorporated area near West Palm Beach, the county seat. The system was established in 1967 and serves Palm Beach County through the Main Library and 17 branch libraries. Its first library branch opened in Tequesta on September 25, 1969, and its first bookmobile five days later. Unlike neighboring Broward and Miami-Dade counties, where most municipalities have joined their county's library system, most municipalities in Palm Beach County continue to operate their own city libraries, leading the county system to focus on the more suburban communities. Instead, a cooperative system model is in place to allow interoperation between county and municipal libraries.

The Tampa–Hillsborough County Public Library System (THPL) is a public library system based in Hillsborough County, Florida. THPL is part of two larger library networks, the Tampa Bay Library Consortium, and the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative which includes Temple Terrace Public Library in Temple Terrace, Florida, and Bruton Memorial Library in Plant City, Florida. There are 33 branches of the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative. Services provided by the THPL include internet access, public meeting room spaces, interlibrary loans, a Bookmobile, a Cybermobile for Spanish speakers, technology classes, adult literacy programs, and downloadable eBooks. Drive-thru windows for returns and hold pick-ups are located at the Jimmie B. Keel and the Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Libraries. In 2017, THPL introduced the new HAAL Pass, which gives access to certain library resources to all students in the Hillsborough County Public Schools System. Students use their student ID number to use different online databases, borrow up to three physical items and read eBooks. The Tampa–Hillsborough County Public Library System is also a part of Hillsborough County government. On January 1, 2018, the library cooperative became one of the largest in the country to go fine free. Overdue fees for borrowed materials were eliminated with the implementation of the "Just Bring It Back" initiative. In 2019 the cooperative received the FLA Library of the Year Award. Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library was recognized for its community focused initiatives as it "reorganized its staffing model and eliminated overdue fines, yielding $1 million in savings while increasing access to library resources and expanding opportunities for community engagement through unique, scalable programs."
The Pasco County Library Cooperative (PCLC) is the public library system that serves all residents of Pasco County, Florida, and is a member of the Tampa Bay Library Consortium. The Pasco County Library System, as it was originally known, was established by county ordinance in 1980.

The Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Boynton Beach, Florida. Its stated mission is to improve the quality of life of those residing in and around Palm Beach County, Florida, by promoting and achieving literacy. The ultimate goal of the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County, is to ensure that every child and every adult in Palm Beach County becomes a reader. One in seven adults in Palm Beach County is unable to read and understand information found in books, newspapers, magazines, brochures and manuals. The organization's operates with the assistance of over 9,000 volunteers. In 2013, the Literacy Coalition provided services to more than 25,000 adults, to children and families.
The Brigadier General Charles E. McGee Library, formerly the Silver Spring Library, is part of the Montgomery County Public Libraries System. It opened to the public in 1931 and is currently located at 900 Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland. The library is named for Charles E.
