History

A post office called Dent was established in 1896, and remained in operation until 1954. [2] One Mr. Dent, an early postmaster, gave the community his last name. [3]

The Dent Bridge is a suspension bridge in the northwest United States, located in North Central Idaho in Clearwater County, north of Orofino. It is 17 miles (27 km) up the North Fork Clearwater River, now the Dworshak Reservoir. Completed 51 years ago in 1971 at a cost of $7,848,950, it has a main span of 1,050 feet (320 m), and an overall length of 1,550 feet (472 m).

Its length is 74.8 miles (120.4 km), it flows westward from the Bitterroot Mountains along the Idaho-Montana border, and joins the Snake River at Lewiston. In October 1805, the Lewis and Clark Expedition descended the Clearwater River in dugout canoes, putting in at "Canoe Camp," five miles (8 km) downstream from Orofino; they reached the Columbia Bar and the Pacific Ocean about six weeks later.
