Deo Prasad

Deo Prasad AO FTSE is an Australian academic in the fields of environment, sustainability and governance, with a focus on decarbonisation, clean energy and energy efficiency. Prasad was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2014. [1] He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering [2] and a Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.

Prasad is currently the chief executive officer of the NSW Decarbonisation Innovation Hub. He is the former CEO of the National Research and Innovation Hub for the Built Environment: CRC for Low Carbon Living. Deo was formerly the Lead Investigator and Director of the SOLARCH Group at University of New South Wales. [3]

Career

Prasad held the position of CEO at the NSW Government Decarbonisation Innovation Hub, The role involved working with stakeholders to decarbonise the economy with the aim of job creation and economic growth. [4] [5]

Prasad was previously the Lead Investigator and Partnerships Manager at the Sustainable Communities and Waste Hub, an initiative of the National Environmental Science Program for the Australian Federal Government.

Prasad was the CEO and Chief Investigator of the National Research and Innovation Hub for the Built Environment, a project known as the CRC for Low Carbon Living. [6] [7]

Prasad served as the interim executive director for the Australian Trailblazer bid for Recycling and Clean Energy. In 2020, Prasad was the Associate Dean of Industry Partnerships and Innovation at the Faculty of the Built Environment, UNSW, Sydney. [8] Prasad was the founder and Program Director of the Master of Built Environment (sustainable development) at UNSW, Sydney, established in 1998. [9]

The Lowy Cancer Research Centre is a facility at The University of New South Wales. It is Australia's first facility bringing together researchers in childhood and adult cancers, and one of the country's largest cancer research facilities, housing up to 400 researchers. The centre, named for businessman Frank Lowy, who donated $10 million towards the project, was officially opened on 28 May 2010. It is home to researchers from the UNSW Faculty of Medicine and Children's Cancer Institute Australia. Bronwyn May Gillanders is a marine scientist whose research spans freshwater, estuarine and marine waters while focusing on fish and fisheries ecology. Her studies of the Giant Australian cuttlefish of Northern Spencer Gulf in South Australia revealed the species' sensitivity to increases in salinity; a controversial aspect of the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for the expansion of BHP Billiton's Olympic Dam mine. Gillanders' discovery was published in the scientific journal Marine Environmental Research and prompted environmental activists to call for the relocation of the project's proposed seawater desalination plant at Point Lowly, due to its proximity to the only mass breeding area for the animals' genetically distinct population. Gillanders commenced work at the University of Adelaide in 2001, received a tenurable position in 2007 and was appointed professor in 2010. She is the Director of the Marine Biology program at the university's Environment Institute.

Professor Peter Philip Gray is a bioengineer who has played a key role in the development of modern industrial biotechnology in Australia. He was Professor and Head of Biotechnology at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, from 1988–2003, and was the inaugural Director of the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) at The University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia from 2003–2015.

Helen Marian Lochhead is an Australian architect and urbanist who combines academic and expert advisory roles with practice. Her career has focused on the inception, planning, design, and delivery of complex urban projects ranging from city improvements programs to major urban regeneration projects. Therese Flapper is an environmental engineer, and was elected to be a fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, in 2023. She has worked with infrastructure including water, roads, waste, energy and buildings, and was past president of Engineers Australia, Canberra, and the local Landcare group.
