Department of Finance and Administration of the Federated States of Micronesia is a government department in the Micronesia responsible for effective management of public financial assets, strengthening tax collection, maximizng investments and maintaining border control of Micronesia. [2]

The Federated States of Micronesia, or simply Micronesia, is an island country in Micronesia, a subregion of Oceania. The federation consists of four states—from west to east, Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae—that are spread across the western Pacific. Together, the states comprise around 607 islands that cover a longitudinal distance of almost 2,700 km (1,700 mi) just north of the equator. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.

The State of Yap is one of the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia, located in the westernmost portion of the country. According to the state's population census carried out in 2020, the total population is 11,577 residing across a total area of 119.54 sq km, though a large majority of the area is water. The only town area in the state, Colonia, serves as the state capital.

Jane Jimmy Chigiyal is a Micronesian diplomat. On October 4, 2011, Chigiyal was confirmed as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations in a 13–1 vote in the 17th session of the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia. Chigiyal's confirmation made her the first female Ambassador from the Federated States of Micronesia in history. She presented her credentials to Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon on December 2, 2011.

An independence referendum for Chuuk State to secede from the Federated States of Micronesia was originally scheduled to take place in March 2015. However, it has been delayed three times and it is uncertain if it will take place. The most populous of the four states within the FSM, Chuuk has high levels of unemployment and there are long-standing tensions over the distribution of funding within the FSM. Other concerns include political power within the federation and the preservation of cultural identity.
