Derbyshire Children's Hospital is a children's hospital in Derby, Derbyshire in the United Kingdom. It is managed by the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. [1] It was the only entirely new children's hospital built in the UK in the twentieth century. [2]

History

The hospital was established as the Derbyshire Hospital for Sick Children in a Victorian building on North Street in 1877. [3] It joined the National Health Service in 1948 and moved to a modern building on the Royal Derby Hospital site in 1996. It was the only entirely new children's hospital built in the UK in the twentieth century. [2]

Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is a specialist NHS provider of health services including mental health services, neurodevelopmental services, children's health services, drug and alcohol recovery services and gambling support services. It is currently rated 'good' by health regulator the Care Quality Commission.

Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was a former NHS trust that ran Royal Derby Hospital and the London Road Community Hospital, both in Derby, together with outpatient and diagnostic services in a range of community hospitals, health centres and GP surgeries across southern Derbyshire, until its merger in July 2018 with Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, when it created University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

Healthcare in Derbyshire was the responsibility of five clinical commissioning groups covering North Derbyshire, Southern Derbyshire, Erewash, Hardwick, and Tameside and Glossop. North Derbyshire, Southern Derbyshire, Erewash and Hardwick announced in November 2018 that they planned to merge.
