Derek Jones is an American college football coach and former professional player. Jones is currently the cornerbacks coach for Virginia Tech Hokies football, serving under first-year head coach Brent Pry. [1] He played cornerback in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and Arena Football League (AFL).
Jones was born in Woodruff, South Carolina. He later earned a degree in Public Administration from Ole Miss, where he also played as a cornerback. [2] Jones also played in the CFL for the Toronto Argonauts and the Edmonton Eskimos. Jones played in the AFL for the Nashville Kats. [3]
A coaching veteran, Jones has been an assistant coach at numerous stops and has worked under several head coaches, including David Cutcliffe at Duke and Ole Miss, Tommy West at Memphis, Steve Kragthorpe at Tulsa, Joe Pannunzio at Murray State, and, most recently, Matt Wells at Texas Tech. [4]
During December 2021, Coach Brent Pry announced that Jones would be joining his new staff as a defensive assistant at Virginia Tech. [5]
David Nelson Cutcliffe is the Special Assistant to the Commissioner for Football Relations at the Southeastern Conference and former college football coach, most recently head coach of the Duke University Blue Devils. Under Cutcliffe, in 2012 the Blue Devils ended an 18-year bowl drought and also brought the Victory Bell back to Duke after beating arch-rival University of North Carolina. The following season, Cutcliffe led the team to a second straight bowl appearance, another win over North Carolina, an Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division championship and the first 10-win season in school history. He also earned multiple college football coach of the year awards from the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the Maxwell Football Club, and the Bobby Dodd Foundation.
Pierson Olin Prioleau [PEER-sun PRAY-low] is a former American football safety. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He played college football at Virginia Tech and is currently on the coaching staff. He received a degree from Virginia Tech in interdisciplinary studies, graduating on May 14, 2011. Pierson served as the director of player development - defense under Justin Fuente at Virginia Tech from 2019–2021. Upon the hiring of Brent Pry as the new head coach for the Hokies, Pierson was promoted to an on-field position as the Safeties coach, replacing fellow Hokie Justin Hamilton.
Stephen Charles Sloan is a former American football player, coach, and college athletics administrator. He played college football as a quarterback at the University of Alabama from 1962 to 1965 and then played for two seasons in the National Football League with the Atlanta Falcons (1966–1967). Sloan served as the head football coach at Vanderbilt University (1973–1974), Texas Tech University (1975–1977), the University of Mississippi (1978–1982), and Duke University (1983–1986), compiling a career record of 68–86–3. He also served as the athletic director at the University of Alabama, the University of North Texas, University of Central Florida, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga before his retirement in 2006. In 2000, Sloan was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.
Derek Dooley is an American football coach and former player who is a senior offensive analyst for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He served as the head football coach at Louisiana Tech University from 2007 to 2009 and the University of Tennessee from 2010 to 2012.
Tyron Lyle Brackenridge is a former Canadian football defensive backs coach for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. He is a former gridiron football cornerback who played the majority of his career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League, where he won a Grey Cup championship in 2013. He was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He played college football at Washington State.
Kendall Christopher Fuller is an American football cornerback for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Virginia Tech and was drafted by the Washington Commanders, then known as the Redskins, in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Fuller also played for the Kansas City Chiefs, where he recorded the game-sealing interception in their Super Bowl LIV victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
Derrick Jones is an American football cornerback and wide receiver for the New Orleans Breakers of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at Ole Miss. He was drafted by the New York Jets in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Dwight B. “Deege” Galt IV is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the Head Strength and conditioning coach for the Virginia Tech Hokies Football program, coaching under first-year head coach Brent Pry. He played college football for Maryland from 2005–2009. Galt was a defensive lineman under Coach Ralph Friedgen.
Ryan Carter is an American football coach and former cornerback, who is currently a defensive graduate assistant on the Oklahoma Sooners coaching staff. He played college football at Clemson, including as a starting cornerback on the Tigers’ 2016 national championship team. In 2018, he signed with the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League as an undrafted free agent out of college. From 2019–2021, he played cornerback for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). In 2022, he joined his former Clemson defensive coordinator and current Oklahoma head football coach Brent Venables' inaugural Sooners coaching staff as a defensive graduate assistant.
