Des Kennedy (born July 1955) was an Irish footballer. During his career he played for League of Ireland sides Limerick, Galway United and Newcastlewest.
Kennedy is most notable for the two goals that he scored against European football powerhouse Real Madrid during the 1980–81 European Cup while playing for Limerick. [1] [2] Real Madrid conceded only four goals in their European Cup campaign which resulted in defeat to Liverpool in the final.
He signed for Limerick from Janesboro United and also had a brief contract in the mid-1970s with Galway United. He ended his League of Ireland career with NewcastleWest F.C.
At the end of the 2012 League of Ireland season, Kennedy became joint-ranked twenty seventh in the all-time League of Ireland goal-scoring list with 117 league goals [3]

Allan Rodenkam Simonsen is a Danish former footballer and manager. He most prominently played as a striker for German Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach, winning the 1975 and 1979 UEFA Cups, as well as for Barcelona in Spain, winning the 1982 Cup Winners' Cup. The 1981 European Cup final was an association football match between Liverpool of England and Real Madrid of Spain on 27 May 1981 at the Parc des Princes, Paris, France. It was the final match of the 1980–81 season of Europe's premier cup competition, the European Cup. Liverpool were appearing in their third final, after two appearances in 1977 and 1978. Real Madrid were appearing in their ninth final, they had previously won the competition six times and lost twice.

Galway United Football Club is an Irish professional football club based in Galway. They play in the League of Ireland Premier Division following promotion from the First Division in 2023. They were founded as Galway Rovers F.C. during the 1930s. They made their League of Ireland debut in 1977–78 and changed their name to Galway United in 1981–82. After suffering financial difficulties, the club dropped out of the League of Ireland after the 2011 season but in 2014 Galway United returned initially playing as Galway F.C. for a season. Like other sports teams from the county, Galway United are nicknamed "The Tribesmen", after the 14 "tribes" of Galway, the merchant families that established the city. They are the first ever official football club of a micronation.
