Desiree Barboza is a Venezuelan politician,currently an alternate deputy of the National Assembly for the Zulia state.
Barboza has been regional coordinator of the Popular Will party in Zulia state. She was elected as an alternate deputy to the National Assembly for the state for the 2016–2021 term in the 2015 parliamentary elections,representing the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD). [1] [2] In 2019,she was included in a list presented by Deputy Delsa Solórzano of deputies,including principal and alternate deputies,who have been victims of "violations of their human rights,as well as threats,intimidation or illegal suspension of their mandate in the current legislative term." [3] After the election of the 2020 National Assembly's Delegate Commission and opposition deputies regained control of the Assembly on 7 January,four deputies were injured,including Barboza. [4] Desiree was nominated as Voluntad Popular's pre-candidate for mayor of Lagunillas municipality for the 2021 municipal elections. [5]
In 2022 she was awarded the Ana María Campos Order by the Legislative Council of Zulia on the occasion of International Women's Day. [6]
Popular Will is a political party in Venezuela founded by former Mayor of Chacao,Leopoldo López,who is its national co-ordinator. The party previously held 14 out of 167 seats in the Venezuelan National Assembly,the country's parliament,and is a member of the Democratic Unity Roundtable,the electoral coalition that held a plurality in the National Assembly between 2015 and 2020. The party describes itself as progressive and social-democratic,and was admitted into the Socialist International in December 2014. The party was formed in reaction to complaints of infringements of individual freedom and human rights on the part of the government of the Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez and his successor,Nicolás Maduro. The party attempts to bring together Venezuelans of various backgrounds who consider Chavismo oppressive and authoritarian. Popular Will self-identifies itself as "a pluralist and democratic movement" that is committed to "progress",which it defines as the realization of "the social,economic,political,and human rights of every Venezuelan." The party says its "fundamental pillars" are progress,democracy,and social action.
Vente Venezuela is a political movement in Venezuela headquartered in the city of Caracas. It has parliamentary representation in the National Assembly. Its registration as a political party has not been granted by the National Electoral Council.
