Desperation Band is a worship band led by Jon Egan, and part of the worship ministry of New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. [1]
The band has been featured on the main stage at Creation East and Kingdom Bound, and has led worship in the Worship Tent at both Creation East and KingdomBound. [2] They have also been featured on Teen Mania's Acquire the Fire tour dates in stadiums around the country. Their albums, recorded live at New Life Church, appear on Integrity’s Vertical Music label and feature "high-energy, passionate new worship songs that convey the hunger of their generation for God." [3]
Desperation Band was first formed in 2001, when New Life Church pastor David Perkins suggested that Jon Egan, Jared Anderson, and Glenn Packiam play together with their bands at the first Desperation Conference. Held annually in July, Desperation Conferences draw thousands of college and high school students. [4]
The song "I Am Free", written by band co-founder Jon Egan and recorded by the band for 2004's From the Rooftops , was later covered by the Newsboys, for whom it became a hit single. [5]
Contemporary worship music (CWM), also known as praise and worship music, is a defined genre of Christian music used in contemporary worship. It has developed over the past 60 years and is stylistically similar to pop music. The songs are frequently referred to as "praise songs" or "worship songs" and are typically led by a "worship band" or "praise team", with either a guitarist or pianist leading. Newsboys are a Christian rock band founded in 1985 in Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia, by Peter Furler and George Perdikis. Now based in Nashville, Tennessee, the band has released 17 studio albums, 6 of which have been certified gold. As of 2023, the band consists of lead vocalist Michael Tait, drummer and percussionist Duncan Phillips, keyboardist Jeff Frankenstein, electric guitarist Jody Davis, and bassist Adam Agee(formerly of Stellar Kart and Audio Adrenaline) no founding members are featured in the lineup. Jared Anderson is a Christian worship leader from Colorado Springs, Colorado. He grew up in the New Life Church where he served for many years as part of New Life Worship and the Desperation Band. Anderson has released four solo albums with Integrity Music, titled Where to Begin (2006), Where Faith Comes From (2008), LIVE From My Church (2009) and The Narrow Road (2012).

Glenn Previn Packiam, is a Malaysian–American Christian musician, guitarist, pianist, worship leader and pastor, who serves as an associate senior pastor at New Life Church and the lead pastor of New Life Downtown in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Packiam's music is a pop rock style of contemporary worship music. He has released three musical projects, Rumors and Revelations (2009), The Kingdom Comes (2011) and The Mystery of Faith (2013). He has also written eight books.
