The German Seamen's Mission (German: Deutsche Seemannsmission, DSM) is a Protestant organization centered in Germany that provides pastoral and social welfare services to commercial seafarers. It operates seafarers' centers in Germany and internationally, with full-time and voluntary workers. The Mission's offices are in Hamburg. [1]

It is a member of the International Christian Maritime Association . [2] As a Christian organization, it sees its work as the extension of neighborly love to seafarers regardless of religion and culture. [3] The German Seamen's Mission defines its mission as "support of seafarers' dignity" and its goal as the improvement of seafarers' living and working conditions. [3]

In response to COVID-19, the DSM was actively involved in advocating for [4] and providing [5] [6] seafarer vaccinations and shore leave. [7]

The international Paul Hindemith Prize promotes outstanding contemporary composers within the framework of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (SHMF). The award commemorates the musical pedagogy of Paul Hindemith, who wrote the composition Plöner Musiktag in 1932 on behalf of the Staatliche Bildungsanstalt Plön. The music prize is endowed with €20,000 and goes together with a composition commission. The prize is presented annually by the Hindemith Foundation, the Walter and Käthe Busche Foundation, the Rudolf and Erika Koch Foundation, the Gerhard Trede Foundation, the Franz Wirth Memorial Trust and the Cultural Office of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg since 1990. From 2010 to 2013, the winner was found by a composition competition. The work of the prize winner is to be premiered within the frame of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.

Duckdalben – International Seamen's Club is the name of the seamen's club founded in 1986 in the Port of Hamburg by the Deutsche Seemannsmission Hamburg-Harburg e. V. Every year, around 35,000 seafarers from more than 100 countries are offered practical help and orientation in what is for them a foreign port. Duckdalben is named after the mooring pilings called Dalben. In 2011 it was named the world's best seamen's club.

F126 or frigate 126 is a planned German frigate class intended to replace the F123 Brandenburg-class frigates in the German Navy. The ships are to be the largest surface warships to join the German Navy since World War II. The first ship is planned to be commissioned in 2028.
