The Southern Province of Sri Lanka is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka, the first level administrative division of the country. The provinces have existed since the 19th century but did not have any legal status until 1987 when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka established provincial councils. It is the 7th largest province by area and is home to 2.5 million people, the 3rd most populated province. The province is bordered by Sabaragamuwa Province and Uva Province to the North, Eastern Province to the Northeast, Western Province to the Northwest and the Indian Ocean to the South, West and East. The Province's capital is Galle.
The Sabaragamuwa Province is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka. Ratnapura is the capital of the province.
The North Eastern Province was one of the provinces of Sri Lanka. The province was created in September 1988 by merging the Northern and Eastern provinces. This merger was declared illegal by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 2006. The province was formally demerged into the Northern and Eastern provinces on 1 January 2007. The capital of the province was Trincomalee.
Chief ministers in Sri Lanka are elected heads of the provincial boards of ministers, bodies which aid and advice the governors, the heads of the provincial government, in the exercise of their executive power. Mohan Saliya Ellawala was the fifth governor of Sabaragamuwa Province in Sri Lanka from 2 October 2008, until his death in May 2009. He had previously been the seventh Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa serving from 13 December 2001, until 16 July 2004.

Seyed Ahmed Seyed Alavi Moulana was a Sri Lankan politician, who entered politics in 1948 as a trade unionist. He was the 5th Governor of Western Province, having assumed office on 1 February 2002. He was a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Cabinet Minister of Labour, and a councillor in the Colombo Municipal Council. He was the Senior Vice-President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and was also a social and religious worker. He also served as acting Governor for Sabaragamuwa in 2009.
W. W. M. R. Dickson Sarathchandra Dela is a former Provincial governor and former Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the Maldives. Dela has held the offices of the Governor of Northern Province and of Sabaragamuwa. He is the father of Pradeep Nilanga Dela, the Diyawadana Nilame.

Senanayake was the Governor of North Central Province and Central Province of Sri Lanka. He was elected to the Sri Lankan Parliament from Mahanuwara in Kandy.

Provincial governments of Sri Lanka are the devolved governments of the nine Provinces of Sri Lanka.
