Dheeraj Gopichand Hinduja (born August 1971) is a British-Indian businessman, the chairman of Ashok Leyland since October 2010.

Early life

Dheeraj Hinduja was born in Iran [1] in August 1971, [2] the son of Gopichand Hinduja. The Hinduja family is of Sindhi heritage. [3]

He received a bachelor's degree from University College London in 1993, and an MBA from Imperial College London in 1994. [4] [5]

Personal life

He married Shalini Chandiramani, a fellow student at Imperial College, and the daughter of a Morocco-based film distributor, some time before 1996. [6] As of 2005, they had two children, Vedika and Vedant. [1]

He received the Arjuna Award in 1999, the Khel Ratna Award in 2001, the Dronacharya Award in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan – India's third highest civilian award – in 2014. Gopi Chand Mannam is an Indian cardiothoracic surgeon and the chief cardiothoracic surgeon at Star Hospitals in Hyderabad, known for the performance of over 3,000 pediatric heart surgeries. After graduating from Guntur Medical College in 1981, he worked in Jamaica for two years at Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston and Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital in Westmoreland, before moving to the UK where he secured a fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1986, followed by another fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow in 1987. Pandimukkala Venkata Vara Lakshmi, better known as P. V. V. Lakshmi, is an Indian former badminton player. She is an eight-time Indian national champion in badminton and represented India in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She is also the wife of Pullela Gopichand. She was the bronze medalist in badminton at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in the Women's Team event.
