The Dir is one of the largest and most prominent Somali clans in the Horn of Africa. They are also considered to be the oldest Somali stock to have inhabited the region. Its members inhabit Djibouti, Somalia, Ethiopia, and northeastern Kenya.

The Rahanweyn, also known as the Digil and Mirifle are a major Somali clan. It is one of the major Somali clans in the Horn of Africa, with a large territory and densely populated fertile valleys of the Jubba and Shebelle rivers and the area between are mainly inhabited by settlers from the Digil and Mirifle lineages.

Ayr, Muhammad Madarkicis Hiraab is a Somali clan, part of the larger Habar Gidir Hawiye clan. The Ayr clan is the eldest Habargidir sub-clan and is the largest Habargidir sub-clan numerically. The Ayr clan have a rich history in Somali society and has played a fore role in shaping Somali history and national politics. They reside in 6 out of the total 18 regions of Somalia but are primarily found in the central region of Somalia, Galgaduud which they hold a monopoly over and is considered their heartlands. They are the most powerful sub-clan in central and southern Somalia controlling important sections of the country and have a great influence over the nation's capital Mogadishu.

The Silcis are a Somali subclan. They are part of the Gorgaarte subclan of the Hawiye clan, which is one of the major clans of Somali people. The Silcis inhabit the traditional coastal region of Benadir in the southern part of Somalia. This region should not be confused with the much smaller present day Banaadir administrative region (gobol) which contains Somalia’s capital Mogadishu. Silcis live, or have historically lived, along the Shabeelle River in towns such as Afgooye and Jowhaar, as well as along the coast, especially in Mogadishu and Warsheekh.

The Habar Gidir is a major subclan of the Hawiye. The clan has produced some prominent Somali figures, including the first Prime Minister of Somalia Abdullahi Issa Mohamud, and Somalia's fifth President Abdiqasim Salad Hassan.

The Somali Rebellion was the beginning of the civil war in Somalia that occurred in the 1980s and early 1990s. The rebellion started in 1978 when President Siad Barre began using his special forces, the "Red Berets", to attack clan-based dissident groups opposed to his regime. The dissidents had been becoming more powerful for nearly a decade following his abrupt switch of allegiance from the Soviet Union to the United States and the disastrous 1977-78 Ogaden War.

The Habr Awal, also contemporarily known as the Awal, and alternately known as the Zubeyr Awal is a major Northern Somali clan of the wider Isaaq clan family, and is further divided into eight sub-clans of whom the two largest and most prominent are the Issa Musa and Sa'ad Musa sub-clans. Its members form a part of the Habar Magadle confederation.

Mohamed Ibrahim Habsade was a Somali politician and rebel soldier of the Rahanweyn Resistance Army. He was Minister of Land and Air Transport and Minister of Agriculture in the Somali Transitional Federal Government.

The Bimaal or Bimal, is a sub-clan of the major Dir clan family. This clan is widely known for leading a resistance against the colonials in southern Somalia for decades which can be compared to the war of the Sayyid in Somaliland. The Biimaal mainly lives in southern Somalia, the Somali region of Ethiopia, which their Gaadsen sub-clan mainly inhabits and in the NEP region of Kenya.

Hoosingo is a district in the southeastern Lower Juba region of Somalia. It is situated on the border with Kenya, and its population is estimated to be around 40,000. Hoosingo is entirely populated by the Sheekhaal clan, mainly Awqudub and other Sheekhaal sub clans. It is one of the largest districts in Lower Juba in terms of landmass and is home to over 20 towns. The town is one of the oldest in the Waamo region and has a rich history dating back several centuries. The people of Hoosingo have been peace-loving and are known for their spirituality, being the pioneers of the old Islamic spread across Somalia. The town is a hub for Islamic learning, with many scholars coming from the area. The economy of Hoosingo is primarily based on livestock, with the town being one of the largest livestock markets in the region. Livestock is the primary source of income for many families, and it is often traded for food, goods, and other services. Additionally, there are small businesses in the town that provide services to the local community, such as shops and restaurants. The region has been home to large wildlife populations before the civil war but has been depleted due to a lack of conservation and hunting.

The Mohamed Abokor is a Somali clan, and a major sub-division of the muuse sh isxaaq clan of the Isaaq.

The Mohamoud Garad is a Somali clan. Its members form a part of the Dhulbahante, a sub-division of the Harti/Darod clan-family. The clan is divided into three main sub-clans ― namely the Jama Siad, the Ugaadhyahan and Omar Wa’eys.

The Baho Nugaaleed the leader baho nugaaleed Khair Abdi [Qayaad], is a division of Somali clan that is part of the Dhulbahante clan-family. The primary homeland of these clans include the regions of Sool and Sanaag And Dmco Doollo DDS in SSC KHAATUMO, the Lower Juba region in Somalia and the Dollo Zone in Ethiopia. The Bah Nugaaleed are composed of three major sub-groups Qayaad Majors in accordance with their locality in the SSCD regions. These groups are Khair Abdi [Qayaad] the Hayaag Yaxye ugaasyo the Reer Aymeed and Reer Nugaaleed _Reer hawud [KhAIR ABDI]Qayaad).
