The Digital National Library of Chile is a platform created by the National Library of Chile on August 19, 2013, [1] on the occasion of the bicentennial of the National Library [2] and seeks to "collect, preserve and disseminate" [3] the information, knowledge, and intellectual production created in Chile in digital support, through the legal deposit law, allowing the integration of the digital services of the National Library, generating a transfer between users who consult analog collections to the digital consultation of the collections, without geographical or temporal limits. History

The Digital National Library was inaugurated on August 19, 2013, during the presidency of Sebastián Piñera, under the direction of the director of the Dibam, Magdalena Krebs and the director of the National Library of Chile, Ana Tironi.[ citation needed ]

By November 2014, it already had 80,000 titles, photos, videos, and articles online, and aimed to digitize 167,000 documents. [5]

On August 19, 2015, the "Chilean Web Archive" website was launched, [6] a "service whose objective is to store and preserve various national websites with the purpose of ensuring the availability of information and knowledge generated in digital format, in case of its eventual disappearance". [7]

During the year 2014, for the period between January and December, the Digital National Library received 66,820 visits made by some 52,324 users. [16]

Puerto Montt is a port city and commune in southern Chile, located at the northern end of the Reloncaví Sound in the Llanquihue Province, Los Lagos Region, 1,055 km to the south of the capital, Santiago. The commune spans an area of 1,673 km2 (646 sq mi) and has a population of 245,902 in 2017. It is bounded by the communes of Puerto Varas to the north, Cochamó to the east and southeast, Calbuco to the southwest and Maullín and Los Muermos to the west.

Coyhaique, also spelled Coihaique in Patagonia, is the capital city of both the Coyhaique Province and the Aysén Region of Chile. Founded by settlers in 1929, it is a young city. Until the twentieth century, Chile showed little interest in exploiting the remote Aisén region. The Carretera Austral southern highway opened in the 1980s.

Puerto Aysén is a city of Chile located in the Aysén del General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo Region, 4 kilometres (2 mi) above the head of Aisén Fjord in the country's extreme south. Puerto Aisén, which is the capital city of both the Aysén Province and the commune of Aisén is located 65 kilometres (40 mi) from the Regional Capital of Coyhaique, and 15 kilometres (9 mi) from the port of Puerto Chacabuco, main entry point to Puerto Aisén by sea. The Carretera Austral is the name given to Chile's Route 7. The highway runs south for about 1,240 kilometers (770 mi) from Puerto Montt to Villa O'Higgins, passing through rural Patagonia.

Balmaceda Airport is an airport next to the village of Balmaceda, serving the Aysén Region of Chile. The airport is 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) west of the Argentina border, it is located 55 km south-east of Coyhaique, the regional capital.

The southern coast of Chile presents a large number of fjords and fjord-like channels from the latitudes of Cape Horn to Reloncaví Estuary. Some fjords and channels are important navigable channels providing access to ports like Punta Arenas, Puerto Chacabuco and Puerto Natales.
