Dinesh Abeywickrama (born January 1, 1983) is a Sri Lankan IT strategist, [1] [2] researcher [3] [4] [5] [6] and author. [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] He is a Member of British Computer Society and currently working as an executive officer at the Capital Maharaja Organization. [17] [18] [19] In 2015 he developed Sri Lanka's first Citizen journalism mobile App. [20] [21]

Early life and family

Born to a middle-class family in the suburbs of Colombo he received his school education at Bandaranayake College, Gampaha. [22] Dinesh's father, Sunil Abeywickrama, [23] was a government clerk, while his mother Mala Abeywickrama was a grade one officer at Sri Lanka Insurance. [24]

Education

Dinesh is a degree holder from the British Computer Society, [25] holds a Master's in Business Management from the Cardiff Metropolitan University. Then he is doing his Ph.D. in Business Management from Management and Science University, Malaysia. [26]

Research

Dinesh Abeywickrama has made many contributions to the ICT field, publishing several scientific papers and articles in peer-reviewed journals, some of which are archived at Oxford University Press. [27] [28] His Green Banking research was awarded at the International Multidisciplinary Research Conference 2016. [29] [30] [31] [32]

Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC (CBC) also known as ComBank is a licensed commercial bank in Sri Lanka and its ownership is private. It was incorporated as a public limited company and it is listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange. It is regarded as the largest private bank in Sri Lanka in terms of net worth and capital. Lotus Tower, also referred to as Colombo Lotus Tower, is a 351.5 m (1,153 ft) tall tower, located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It has been called a symbolic landmark of Sri Lanka. As of 2019, the tower is the tallest self-supported structure in South Asia; the second tallest structure in South Asia after the guy-wire-supported INS Kattabomman in India; the 11th tallest tower in Asia and the 19th tallest tower in the world. It was first proposed to be built in the suburb of Peliyagoda but later the Government of Sri Lanka decided to change the location. He is a member of the Academy for Global Business Advancement and the Chapter President, Sri Lanka at the International Management Research and Technology Consortium. He served as the Head of Academics at the Management and Science University. He was instead worked as an executive officer at the Capital Maharaja Organization.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2019 Sri Lanka Easter bombings</span> Series of suicide bombings

On 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday, three churches in Sri Lanka and three luxury hotels in the commercial capital, Colombo, were targeted in a series of coordinated ISIS-related terrorist suicide bombings. Later that day, two smaller explosions occurred at a housing complex in Dematagoda and a guest house in Dehiwala. A total of 269 people were killed, including at least 45 foreign nationals, three police officers, and eight suicide bombers. An additional 500 were injured. The church bombings were carried out during Easter services in Negombo, Batticaloa and Colombo; the hotels bombed included the Shangri-La, Cinnamon Grand, Kingsbury and Tropical Inn. According to the State Intelligence Service, a second wave of attacks was planned, but was prevented due to government raids.

The 2022 Sri Lankan protests, commonly known as Aragalaya, were a series of mass protests that began in March 2022 against the government of Sri Lanka. The government was heavily criticized for mismanaging the Sri Lankan economy, which led to a subsequent economic crisis involving severe inflation, daily blackouts, and a shortage of fuel, domestic gas, and other essential goods. The protesters' main demand was the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and key officials from the Rajapaksa family. Despite the involvement of several opposition parties, most protesters considered themselves to be apolitical, with many expressing discontent with the parliamentary opposition. Protesters chanted slogans such as "Go Home Gota", "Go Home Rajapaksas", and "Aragalayata Jaya Wewa". Most protests were organized by the general public, with youths playing a major part by carrying out protests at Galle Face Green.
