Liguanea is an area of the island of Jamaica. Its name came from the language of the Arawak people who currently inhabit some of the island's rural areas in Cornwall County. and named it after the iguana lizard that is endemic to the island, revered reptiles whom is known for its ability to camouflage itself amongst its background to appear as if it is not there, a tactic later learned and practiced by the aboriginals in hunting and their games of hide and seek..

Jamaican Maroons descend from Africans who freed themselves from slavery on the Colony of Jamaica and established communities of free black people in the island's mountainous interior, primarily in the eastern parishes. Africans who were enslaved during Spanish rule over Jamaica (1493–1655) may have been the first to develop such refugee communities.

Annotto Bay is a town in the parish of Saint Mary in Jamaica. It was once an active port on the north side. This town was previously named ‘Guayguata’ by the Tainos, it is named from the abundance of the Annatto trees in the area. The Spanish settlement of the Mellila mentioned early in the sixteenth century Spanish Jamaica was probably located near present-day Annotto Bay and Fort George, Jamaica, and the nearby golf course are thought to have been built on a Spanish foundation.
Cambridge is a town in Jamaica. It is the main township of the parish of St James, nestled in mountains, fifteen (15) miles south east of the City of Montego Bay and its hub is historic Wilmot Max Ramsay Square. Cambridge is located in the County of Cornwall. The chief "fruit-basket" of the parish, Cambridge is also the capital of the upper St James region.
The benta is a large one-string bamboo zither native to Jamaica. The instrument is an idiochord, in that the string of the instrument is made from the same piece of bamboo as composes the body. The instrument is played by two men sitting astride it at either end, one striking the string and the other changing the pitch of the string by using a gourd like a guitar slide.
Fulke Rose was a British physician and early colonist of Jamaica. He was one of the principal buyers in Jamaica of slaves taken by the Royal African Company and had extensive land-holdings on the island. He continued to practice medicine in Jamaica and with Hans Sloane attended the former privateer Henry Morgan towards the end of Morgan's life.
Alexander Aikman was a Scottish printer, newspaper publisher, planter, and member of Jamaica's House of Assembly. From 1805 to 1825, he was a member of the House of Assembly as the representative of Saint George parish.
Saint George Parish was one of the historic parishes of Jamaica created following colonisation of the island by the British. It was on the north side of the island in Surrey County but was abolished in 1866 when it was divided between Saint Mary and Portland parishes.
Saint James East Central is a parliamentary constituency represented in the House of Representatives of the Jamaican Parliament. It elects one Member of Parliament by the first past the post system of election. The constituency was first contested in the 1976 general election. The current MP is the Hon. Edmund Bartlett of the Jamaica Labour Party who has been in office since 2002.
