The Government of Maharashtra is the government for the state of Maharashtra, India. It is a democratically elected government with 288 MLAs elected to the legislative assembly for a 5-year term. Maharashtra has a bicameral legislature which consists of two Houses, the Vidhan Sabha and the Vidhan Parishad. As is the case in a parliamentary system, the government is formed by the party, alliance or group of assembly members who command the majority in the lower House. Lower House majority leader becomes the Chief Minister and selects the cabinet members from both Houses. 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election Assembly election in Maharashtra

The 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election was held on 21 October 2019 to elect all 288 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. After a 61.4% turnout in the election, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena (SHS) won a majority. Following differences over the government formation, the alliance was dissolved, precipitating a political crisis. Since a council of ministers had not been formed after no party could manage to form the government, President's rule had been imposed in the state.
