Dirt Sense is the second studio album by South African recording artist Ashton Nyte, frontman for the Gothic Rock band The Awakening. Described as "stripped down, minimalist, under-produced, almost dirty", [1] and "a powerful album with strong tunes and hard-hitting lyrics" [2] the album contains some of the artist's "most personal" [3] songs. A video was produced for the single Window and aired throughout South African music television. [4]

Ashton Nyte South African singer

Ashton Nyte is a South African-born singer, songwriter, producer, composer and front man of the South African alternative rock band The Awakening. Nyte has released six solo albums both as Ashton Nyte and Ashton Nyte and the Accused in addition to his numerous releases as The Awakening. He is considered to be a pioneer of alternative music in South Africa, and has been described as "something of a musical genius" for his typical method of composing, playing and recording each instrument himself on most of his releases. Nyte is widely known in South Africa for his chart-topping cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sounds of Silence" and several other top singles. His signature style combines baritone vocals akin to David Bowie and Johnny Cash, with instrumentation that ranges from alternative rock to post punk to Americana and even lo-fi indie rock. Nyte has been based in the USA since 2009.

The Awakening (band) band

The Awakening is a musical project founded in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1995 by vocalist, songwriter, guitarist and producer Ashton Nyte. The sound has been described as a hybrid of gothic rock, industrial rock and new wave - a combination that was described by Nyte as "dark future rock." The Awakening has released eight studio albums, several singles, EPs and two greatest hits compilations. As of 2008 The Awakening has been based in the United States.

In 2005 Dirt Sense was re-released as a second edition, remixed and mastered with a bonus CD featuring, among others, Nyte's interpretation of Elvis's "Fever."

"Down in a Hole" is a power ballad by Alice in Chains, and the fifth and last single from their album Dirt (1992). It is the twelfth song on most pressings of the album and fourth or eleventh on others. The song was written by guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell for his then-girlfriend, Courtney Clarke. The single spent 21 weeks on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks and peaked at No. 10. The song was included on the compilation albums Nothing Safe: Best of the Box (1999) and Music Bank (1999). An acoustic version performed on Alice in Chains' MTV Unplugged in 1996 was released in a live album and DVD.

Richard Vernon (musician)

Richard "Rich" Vernon is a British musician and songwriter best known as the bass guitarist of UK rock band The Mission and previously with The Only Ones vocalist and cult artist Peter Perrett in The One. He has recorded two studio and four live albums with The Mission including the critically acclaimed God is a Bullet, as well as two with The One and one with Helter Skelter. He was also appeared as a guest musician on The Dead Guitars album Flags, in 2008.
