Text of the Disability Discrimination (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 as in force today (including any amendments) within the United Kingdom, from legislation.gov.uk.

The Disability Discrimination (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 is an order in Council for Northern Ireland relating to ableism.

Provisions

The order is similar to the Disability Discrimination Act 2005. [1]

The order made a number of changes to the definition of disability. [2] People with progressive conditions such as HIV, multiple sclerosis or cancer became deemed to be disabled from the point of disagnosis, rather than when the condition has an adverse impact on the individual's on their ability to carry out everyday activities. [2] [3]

The order protects employees in relation to discrimination by an employer. The order also prohobits discrimination towards job applicants and people who are self-employed. [4]

Public authorities became obliged to produce and submit a disability action plan to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland. [5]
