The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour was the worldwide professional beach volleyball tour for both men and women organized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The World Tour was introduced 1989 for men and in 1992 for women being held yearly since then until 2021 when it was replaced by the new Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour.

George Giatsis is an academic researcher and a Greek volleyball and beach volleyball coach. He has a doctorate in the kinesiology of volleyball and beach volleyball. The title of his thesis was "Biomechanical differences in elite beach-volleyball players in vertical jumps on rigid and sand surface". He also wrote a number of scientific articles concerning volleyball, beach volleyball and vertical jumps. He is an expert in kinesiology of the arm swing technique in spike attack in volleyball and beach volleyball. Giatsis played more than 200 tournaments in Greece and internationally. In 1998, he took ninth place in CEV finals at the European Championship in Rhodes. He also took 2nd place in Doha, Qatar in 2002.

Dmitry Aleksandrovich Muserskiy is a Russian volleyball player of Ukrainian descent, member of the Russian national team and Japanese club, Suntory Sunbirds. 2012 Olympic Champion, 2011 World Cup winner, 2013 European Champion, and multiple World League medallist. Muserskiy is among the world's tallest athletes.

Álvaro Magliano de Morais Filho is a Brazilian male beach volleyball player. Early in his adolescence, Álvaro liked to play soccer. By the influence of his father, who practices beach volleyball, Álvaro began venturing onto the sand and as he says himself: "I have become hooked to beach volleyball". He played with Vitor Felipe from 2007 to the middle of the 2011 season, when he started a partnership with Moisés. Over the years, he also played with Fábio Luiz, Benjamin, Luciano, and Thiago. In March 2013, he started playing with Ricardo Santos, a world-class Olympic Games gold medalist player. This partnership proved outstanding and led Álvaro and Ricardo to finish the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship Mazury 2013 in second place. Furthermore, Álvaro also won the prize of Most Valuable Player of the tournament. FIVB said that "... the tournament's Most Valuable Player Alvaro Filho not only performed superbly on the sand, but the statistics also reflected how well he played. The 22-year-old topped the most number of spikes and digs, illustrating how often he was served to while impressing with his backcourt play". In 2019, Álvaro partnered with Olympic champion - Alison Cerutti. The team will be competing in the Tokyo2020 journey.

The volleyball tournaments at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo were played between 24 July and 8 August 2021. 24 volleyball teams and 48 beach volleyball teams participated in the tournament. The indoor volleyball competition took place at Ariake Arena in Ariake, and the beach volleyball tournament at Shiokaze Park, in the temporary Shiokaze Park Stadium.

The 2013 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Grand Champions Cup was held in Kyoto and Tokyo, Japan from 19 to 24 November 2013.
