Thomas ThurmonMcConnell was an American football player, coach of football and baseball, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Doane College in Nebraska in 1914 and at the University of Arkansas from 1915 to 1916, compiling a career college football record of 12–8–3. McConnell was also the head baseball coach at Arkansas in 1916, tallying a mark of 10–5.

Ward H. Haylett was an American football, basketball, track and field, and cross country running coach. Haylett served as the head football coach at Doane College—now known as Doane University—in Crete, Nebraska from 1924 to 1927 and Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Science—now known as Kansas State University compiling a career college football coaching record of 23–32–6. He was enshrined in the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1979.

David Livingston Crawford was an American entomologist, coach of football and basketball, and college professor and administrator. He served as the head football coach at the University of Hawaii from 1917 to 1919. He also coached the Hawaii basketball team during the 1918–19 season. Crawford attended Pomona College and Cornell University. He taught at Pomona before coming to Hawaii, where he was head of the entomology department. Crawford served as president of the University of Hawaii from 1927 to 1941. He was the president of Doane College—now known as Doane University—in Crete, Nebraska from 1948 to 1954. Crawford died on January 18, 1974, of Parkinson's disease, at a nursing home in Moorestown Township, New Jersey.

Earl "Peanuts" Johnson was an American football and basketball coach. He served as the head football coach at Doane College from 1910 to 1912 and at Nebraska State Normal School—now known as Peru State College—from 1913 to 1917, compiling a career college football coaching record of 24–29–5. Johnson was also the head basketball coach at Nebraska State Normal from 1913 to 1918, tallying a mark of 26–23.

Alger Hutchinson Wood (1891–1970) was an American football and basketball coach. Wood served as the head football coach at Doane College in 1917 and at Alma College in 1919, compiling a career college football coaching record of 5–11. Wood was also the head basketball coach at Doane in 1916–17 and Alma from 1918 to 1920, tallying a career college basketball mark of 19–27.

H. H. "Harry" Johnston was an American football and basketball coach. He was the 18th head football coach at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, serving for four seasons, from 1919 to 1922, and compiling a record of 16–11–4. Johnston was also the head basketball coach at Doane from 1919 to 1923, tallying a mark of 36–15. Johnston captained the 1914 Doane football team. He also coached at a high school in Crete in the 1940s.

Albert Eugene Haylett was an American college football and college basketball coach. He was the 22nd head football coach at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, serving for nine seasons, from 1933 to 1941, and compiling a record of 34–30–8. Haylett was also the head basketball coach at Doane from 1933 to 1942, tallying a mark of 84–62.

James Laverne Dutcher was an American football coach. He served as the 23rd head football coach at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and he held that position for ten seasons, from 1942 until 1951. His coaching record at Doane was 52–28–5. Dutcher led his team to a victory in the 1950 Bean Bowl by a score of 14 to 6 on November 23, 1950.

Elvin A. "Al" Papik was an American football coach. He served as the 26th head football coach at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, for 16 seasons, from 1955 until 1970. His coaching record at Doane was 80–52–9.

Brian Naber is a former American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Doane College from 1981 to 1983 and at Cameron University from 1984 to 1989, compiling a career college football record of 54–40–2.

The 1891 Nebraska Old Gold Knights football team represented the University of Nebraska in the 1891 college football season. The team had no head coach, but Theron Lyman led NU in preparation for its game against Iowa. The team played its single home game at Lincoln Park, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The 1892 Illinois Fighting Illini football team was an American football team that represented the University of Illinois during the 1892 college football season. In their first season under head coach Edward K. Hall, the Illini compiled a 7–4–1 record. Fullback Ralph W. Hart was the team captain.

The 1890–91 Doane Tigers football team represented Doane College in the 1890 college football season. Doane's game against Nebraska represented the first intercollegiate game of football in the history of the state of Nebraska.
