Doirean Wilson is a British academic who is Diversity Lead at Middlesex University London, and a Senior Lecturer specialising in Strategic HRM, Professional Practitioner and Community Engagement. [1] She has written widely from her expertise on diversity in teaching and learning, and has edited and contributed to many publications.

Background

Her educational qualifications include a doctorate in Professional Practice (D.Prof), a master's degree in Human Resource Management (MA HRM), a postgraduate Certificate in Further Education (PG Cert Ed FE), and a postgraduate Certificate in Management Studies (CMS). [1]

A former journalist, television presenter and projects manager, [2] Wilson has worked as an educator in a variety of roles, and since 1995 has been employed at Middlesex University London. [3] Of Jamaican parentage, she was the first black woman to lead an Executive MBA Programme in a UK university. [3] She is currently Diversity Lead and HR Senior Lecturer at Middlesex University Business School London, specializing in Diversity and Corporate Engagement. [4] She is founder of Inclusivity In Practice, a multi-platform HR information service for diversity practitioners and business leaders. [5]

Among her other involvements, she is chair of the Nubian Jak Community Trust, an advisory board member for the Ghana UK-Based Achievement Awards, and a founding member and advisory board member of the Women's Executive Network. [6]

Awards and recognition

She is a senior fellow for the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), a fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA), a fellow of the European Institute for Spirituality in Economics and Society (SPES), and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (Chartered FCIPD). Human resources (HR) is the set of people who make up the workforce of an organization, business sector, industry, or economy. A narrower concept is human capital, the knowledge and skills which the individuals command. Similar terms include manpower, labor, labor-power, or personnel.

Middle management is the intermediate management level of a hierarchical organization that is subordinate to the executive management and responsible for "team leading" line managers and/or "specialist" line managers. Middle management is indirectly responsible for junior staff performance and productivity.

Human resource management (HRM) is the strategic and coherent approach to the effective and efficient management of people in a company or organization such that they help their business gain a competitive advantage. Reflective practice is the ability to reflect on one's actions so as to take a critical stance or attitude towards one's own practice and that of one's peers, engaging in a process of continuous adaptation and learning. According to one definition it involves "paying critical attention to the practical values and theories which inform everyday actions, by examining practice reflectively and reflexively. This leads to developmental insight". A key rationale for reflective practice is that experience alone does not necessarily lead to learning; deliberate reflection on experience is essential.

As a Distinguished Professor of international business and strategy, she is on the faculty at D'Amore-McKim School of Business, Northeastern University. Her published contributions in the field of international human resource management have won academic distinctions, and been endorsed in scholarly literature and in wider professional circles. Among her books, Get a Life, Not a Job, Managing the Global Workforce,Cultural Agility: Building a Pipeline of Successful Global Professionals, and Build Your Cultural Agility: The Nine Competencies of Successful Global Professionals, received attention by qualified media. In 2023, she wrote Live for a Living: How to Create your Career Journey to Work Happier, Not Harder with Andrew Palmer (Technologist), which focuses on career development. She is ranked # 392 among the best business and management scientists in the US, 810 worldwide.

Marlene Kanga is an Australian engineer, entrepreneur, and diversity activist, who was awarded Queens Birthday honours in 2022. She was appointed an officer of the Order of Australia for her substantial service to Engineering, particularly as a global leader and role model to women to professional organisations, and to business.
