The Long Island Ducks are an American professional minor-league baseball team based on Long Island in Central Islip,New York. The Ducks compete in the North Division of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB),an independent "partner league" of Major League Baseball. The Ducks played their first season in 2000,two years after the ALPB inaugural season. Since their inception the Ducks' home ballpark has been Fairfield Properties Ballpark,formerly known as Bethpage Ballpark (2010-2020),Suffolk County Sports Park (1999),EAB Park (2000–2001),and Citibank Park (2002–2009). The "Ducks" name refers to Long Island's duck-farming heritage and recalls the former Long Island Ducks professional ice hockey team. The team's first manager was Bud Harrelson,a part-owner of the team and a former major league player.

Derrel McKinley "Bud" Harrelson is a former Major League Baseball shortstop. He is a coach and part-owner of the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He played for the New York Mets,Philadelphia Phillies,and Texas Rangers from 1965 to 1980. After his retirement as a player,he served as a coach for the World Champion 1986 Mets,and as manager of the Mets in 1990 and 1991. He was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 1986. Harrelson is the only person to take part in both of the Mets' World Series championships and appear in the first three world series for the team;he won in 1969 and appeared in the 1973 World Series as a player and in 1986 as a coach. Harrelson is also the only person in Mets franchise history to have appeared in four playoff seasons;as a player in 1969 and 1973;and as a coach in 1986 and 1988.

Dale Curtis Sveum is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) player and manager. He most recently served as the bench coach for the Kansas City Royals. As a player,Sveum saw action in 12 major league seasons between 1986 and 1999. He was a member of the Milwaukee Brewers,Philadelphia Phillies,Chicago White Sox,Oakland Athletics,Seattle Mariners,Pittsburgh Pirates,and New York Yankees. Following his playing career,Sveum managed in minor league baseball for several seasons before becoming an MLB coach. Sveum briefly served as manager of the Brewers in 2008 during his tenure as hitting coach for the team. He was later named manager of the Cubs after the 2011 season and served for two seasons. His cousin is former Blue Jays All-Star John Olerud.
