Donald Joseph McDeed (born 22 March 1931) is an Australian former international rugby union player. [1]

McDeed was born in the Victorian town of Hastings and educated at Sydney's St Patrick's College. [2]

A hooker, McDeed played for Parramatta during the early 1950s, before switching to Manly. [3] He was called up by the Wallabies in 1961 as understudy to Peter Johnson in a home series against Fiji, then kept his place for that year's tour of South Africa, featuring in their draw against South-West Africa and win over Border. [2]

During the 1971 South Africa rugby union tour of Australia he was one of seven Wallabies players who refused to play the whites-only South African Springboks team and voiced their opposition to the continuation of sporting ties with apartheid-based South Africa. After his sporting career Darveniza served as a consultant neurologist at St Vincents Hospital, Darlinghurst for more than 50 years.
