In 1997,he defeated challenger Nick Wichowski to win a second term. Term limits prevented him from running a third consecutive time. He was succeeded by former mayor Jack Ford in 2002. Following his first administration,Finkbeiner served on the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority board. He joined the ABC affiliate in Toledo and hosted Carty &Company,a Sunday morning public affairs show. He also contributed a weekly editorial segment,It's Just Not Right! The 2018 Ohio gubernatorial election took place on November 6,2018,to elect the next governor of Ohio,concurrently with the election of Ohio's Class I U.S. Senate seat,as well as other elections to the United States Senate in other states,elections to the United States House of Representatives,and various Ohio and local elections. Incumbent Republican Governor John Kasich was term-limited and could not seek re-election for a third consecutive term.
The 2022 United States Senate elections were held on November 8,2022,concurrently with the midterm elections at the federal,state and local level,including the 2022 U.S. House of Representatives elections. Regularly scheduled elections were held for 34 of the 100 seats in the U.S. Senate,the winners of which will serve six-year terms in the U.S. Congress from January 3,2023,to January 3,2029,starting with the 118th United States Congress. One special election was also held to complete an unexpired term ending January 3,2027. While pundits considered the Republican Party a slight favorite to gain control of the Senate,the Democratic Party outperformed expectations and expanded the majority they had held since 2021.
