Donny Scott, also known by his stage name Donny Goines, is an American rapper.
Goines was born in Manhattan, New York City and spent the first years of his life there. [1] At a young age his father was incarcerated for ten years, and he moved with his mother and siblings to Philadelphia. The kids were eventually taken in by their grandmother. [2] Goines grew up in the boroughs of the Bronx and Harlem, New York City. [3] Despite his tumultuous childhood he was able to develop his artistic talents with poems and freestyle raps, which eventually led him to his professional career.
In January 2006, he produced three songs uploaded on MySpace. [4] He took the stage name Donny Goines—a take on the name of the author Donald Goines. [3] Goines began working for the late producer Disco D in the summer of 2006 as a production intern and assistant. [5] When Disco D was travelling for business, Goines was given permission to use his equipment to record his own personal tracks, including the use of Disco D's production beats. [6] Goines spent his first few years developing his skills as an artist. [7] In 2007, he released the album The Non Fiction. [8] In 2008, he released the online album Minute After Midnight, executive produced by New York producer Dame Grease. [9] He found his first national success that year in the viral online video series BARS, featuring freestyle rap. [3] He was also a featured performer at that year's Underground Music Awards in New York City, [10] where he was awarded the 2008 Buzz Factor Award. [11] He was also featured on hip hop radio networks including Hot 97, [12] and his music videos were featured on the websites of hip hop magazines including XXL Magazine . [13]
In 2009, he released the album The Breakfast Club, which featured collaborations with artists including Kwamé, Statik Selektah, and Planet Asia. [14] In 2010, MTV UK called Goines "your favourite MC's favourite artist". [7] In a two-part interview with the television outlet, Goines opined on his reasons for remaining in the underground hip-hop scene instead of altering his music to obtain a major record deal. He stated that, "I might not be the richest rapper; I might not be the most famous but honestly speaking just having that respect and admiration? You can’t buy that. That is something you can never purchase, you know?" [15] That year he released a six-song EP with Rocksmith Tokyo entitled 20X. [16]
In 2011, he released the album Success Served Cold, which MTV reviewed, labelling Goines an "independent powerhouse". [17] Goines stated that the album was a compilation of work he had done over the entirety of his career. [3] Soon afterwards he was interviewed for VIBE Magazine , where he spoke about the importance of the team around him in creating his music and that his reaction to career disappointments was to work on and release new music. [18] He was also interviewed by MTV U. [19] On November 7, 2012, Donny Goines was filmed breaking the world record for longest freestyle rap, lasting twelve hours and twenty minutes. [20] [21]
In 2013, Goines retreated from the public eye due to illness. [1] In 2015, he released the EP Gala. [22]

John David Jackson, better known by his stage name Fabolous, is an American rapper. Raised in Brooklyn, he first gained recognition for his ability upon performing live on DJ Clue's Hot 97 radio show. Jackson then signed to Clue's record label, Desert Storm Records in a joint venture with Elektra Records. He first gained mainstream prominence for his debut studio album Ghetto Fabolous (2001), which spawned the hit singles "Can't Deny It" and "Young'n ." His second album, Street Dreams (2003) was further commercially oriented and supported by the singles "Can't Let You Go" and "Into You" —both of which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100.
Leslie Edward Pridgen, better known by his stage name Freeway, is an American rapper from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He first gained recognition after appearing on Jay-Z's fifth album, The Dynasty: Roc La Familia in 2000. The following year, he became a member of the Philadelphia-based hip hop collective State Property, which were signed to Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records, an imprint of Def Jam Recordings. After releasing their debut album, Pridgen signed to Roc-A-Fella as a solo artist and began work on his debut album, Philadelphia Freeway (2003). Upon release, the album peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 and saw positive critical response. He released a follow-up, Free at Last (2007) to moderate reception before him and fellow State Property cohorts were dropped from the label.
Lamont Coleman, known professionally as Big L, was an American rapper. Emerging from Harlem in New York City in 1992, Big L became known among underground hip-hop fans for his freestyling ability. He was eventually signed to Columbia Records, where, in 1995, he released his debut album, Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous. On February 15, 1999, he was fatally shot nine times in a drive-by shooting in Harlem.
Reginald Noble, better known by his stage name Redman, is an American rapper, DJ, record producer, and actor. He rose to fame in the early 1990s as an artist on the Def Jam label.
Shady Records is an American record label founded by rapper Eminem and his manager Paul Rosenberg in 1999, following the commercially successful release of The Slim Shady LP that same year. The label's name comes from the last name of Eminem's alter ego, Slim Shady.

Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, better known by his stage name Wale, is an American rapper. He first became known for his 2006 song "Dig Dug ", which became popular in his hometown of Washington D.C. and led Wale to gain further local recognition as he amassed a number of follow-up releases. Wale signed with English DJ-producer Mark Ronson's Allido Records in 2007, and after a three-label bidding war, he entered a joint venture with Interscope Records for US$1.3 million the following year. During this time, Wale's mixtapes and singles saw national attention as he appeared on MTV and various Black America-focused magazines.
Asher Paul Roth is an American rapper. His debut single "I Love College" in 2009 is considered the birth of the frat rap genre. Roth released his debut studio album Asleep in the Bread Aisle, on April 20, 2009, by Universal Motown, SRC, and School Boy Records; the latter of which was launched by Roth's former manager Scooter Braun. Roth later left Schoolboy Records in late 2012, due to creative differences with Braun. In 2013, Roth signed with indie record label Federal Prism, on which he released his second studio album, RetroHash.

Raised in Decatur, Georgia, Simmons signed with producer Jim Jonsin through his Rebel Rock Entertainment label in 2006. Two years later, he signed a joint venture recording contract with fellow Georgia rapper T.I.'s Grand Hustle Records, an imprint of Atlantic Records. Following his major-label deal, Simmons quickly achieved commercial success when his 2009 debut single, "Nothin' on You", peaked the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and received three nominations—Record of the Year, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration—at the 53rd Grammy Awards.
Slaughterhouse was an American hip hop supergroup consisting of rappers Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Royce da 5'9". They released their eponymous debut studio album independently in 2009, and signed to Shady Records, an imprint of Interscope Records to release it's follow up, Welcome to: Our House in 2012. The group disbanded in 2018.
Michael Wayne Atha, better known by his stage name Yelawolf, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. Born in Gadsden, Alabama, and raised in Antioch, Tennessee, he embarked on his recording career in 2005, releasing four mixtapes to positive local reception. His debut extended play (EP), Trunk Muzik gained Yelawolf mainstream recognition, leading him to sign a recording contract with Interscope Records. He re-worked the EP as his first major label release, Trunk Muzik 0-60 (2010).

She would attain further prominence when she was featured on Kendrick Lamar's 2015 album To Pimp a Butterfly, on the track "Complexion ".
Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, known by his stage name as Joey Badass, is an American rapper and actor. Born in Brooklyn, New York City, he formed the regional hip-hop group Pro Era in 2011, with whom he has released three mixtapes and formed the larger collective, Beast Coast the following year.
Omar Rogelio Tull, better known by his stage name PackFM, is an American Underground hip hop artist and producer from Brooklyn, New York City. As a teenager in the mid-1990s, PackFM began his battle career, winning numerous prestigious freestyle titles. These wins include the 88HipHop MC Battle Champion, where he was inducted into their Hall of Fame after four undefeated months, Braggin Rites tournament in 1999, Everlast Harlem Lyricist Championship in 2003, and three undefeated months in the 24 Hour MC Battle sponsored by TDK.

Connor has released various mixtapes and an album effort during his career including the Jay-Z inspired The Blue Album, and the Eminem inspired The People's Rapper LP. His debut studio album, Unconscious State was released in 2013. Shortly thereafter, he was signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment from 2013 to 2019, where he did not release an album. In 2015, he garnered notoriety for being featured on Dr. Dre's album Compton (2015) as well as The Game's album The Documentary 2.5 (2015).
