Doris Weatherford is an American author and historian who writes about women's studies and the history of women in the United States. [1]

Early life

She was born in Minnesota and moved with her family to Arkansas when she was about 10. She graduated from Arkansas Tech where she met her husband Roy Weatherford. While he studied at Harvard she was a graduate fellow at Brandeis University in Boston. [2] They later moved to Tampa, Florida.

Career

Weatherford writes a column for the newspaper La Gaceta. [1] [3]

Weatherford is a former chair of the Florida Women's Hall of Fame. [1]

Florida Governor Lawton Chiles appointed her a trustee of Hillsborough Community College. [1] In 2020 she commemorated Women's Equality Day with Tampa Mayor Jane Castor and U.S. Representative Kathy Castor. [4] [5] She received a lifetime achievement award from the League of Women Voters.

Her husband Roy taught at the University of South Florida for 35 years and died in 2020. [6]

Pamela Dorothy Iorio is an American politician and author, who served as mayor of Tampa, Florida from 2003 to 2011.

George D. Chamberlain High School is a public high school in Tampa, Florida. It was opened in 1956 on North Boulevard. The school is named in honor of George D. Chamberlain, who served for several years as a trustee for the Hillsborough County School System. In 2011 Chamberlain was listed as an "A" School; this is a first in the school's history.

Katherine Anne Castor is an American politician and lawyer currently representing Florida's 14th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives, serving since 2007. Beth Johnson (American politician) American politician

Elizabeth "Beth" McCullough Johnson (1909–1973) was an American politician. She served as a Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives and Florida Senate for nearly a decade. Johnson became the first female state senator in Florida history upon her election in 1962. She had previously become the second woman elected to the Florida House, when she was chosen to represent Orange County in 1958.

Doris Valdena Funnye Innis was an American writer, editor and educator, significantly in the area of civil rights. She was the editor of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) publications Rights and Reviews and CORE Magazine in the early 1970s and again in the 1980s.

Eleanor "Ella" Collier McWilliams Chamberlain was an American women's rights pioneer who has been credited with starting the women's suffrage movement in Florida. Chamberlain was born in Mahaska County, Iowa, in September 1848, and moved to Florida in the early 1880s after she married. The 2021 St. Petersburg, Florida mayoral election was held on August 24, 2021. Incumbent Democratic mayor Rick Kriseman is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term in office. Municipal elections in St. Petersburg are officially nonpartisan. All candidates appeared on the same primary ballot, and because no candidate garnered at least 50% of the vote, the top two vote-getters advanced to a runoff election on November 2, 2021.
