The district is bounded by 5th Avenue N, Beach Drive NE, Central Avenue (St. Petersburg, Florida)Central Avenue, and 9th Street N. It contains 367 historic buildings and 7 objects.

The Alexander Hotel is an historic hotel located at 535 Central Avenue between 5th Street S. and 6th Street S. in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. The four-story, buff-colored brick building was built in 1919 and was designed by Neel Reid in the Classical Revival style. It has been converted to an office building. On November 1, 1984, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is located within the Downtown St. Petersburg Historic District.

Francis J. Kennard was a prolific architect of many prominent buildings in Tampa, Florida. The public buildings he designed are often in the Neoclassical style. His work includes Hillsborough High School, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and the Belleview-Biltmore Hotel. Kennard employed the French Renaissance Revival style in his design for el Centro Español de Tampa as well as influences from Moorish Revival and Spanish Mediterranean Revival.

Vernon Redding was an architect in Mansfield, Ohio. He designed the Ashland County Courthouse (Ohio), Huron County Courthouse and Jail (1913) and one or more buildings in Center Street Historic District. He also designed Mansfield's Carnegie library built in 1908. Several buildings he designed are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
