The Dubai Music Week is a five-day music convention held at the Dubai International Convention Centre in Dubai in mid-September. The convention features a variety of concerts, conferences, and exhibitions. The event was established in 2013 by the Global Gumbo Group (G3) in partnership with the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC). The Dubai Music Festival features top international music artists and entertainment companies. [1]

2013 Dubai Music Week

The inaugural Dubai Music Week 2013 was presented in association with Dubai Calendar, official Partner Emirates and official sponsor Pepsi. It was the first industry trade show in MENA that brought together major music labels, artists and merchants to exhibit their products and launch initiatives to key industry stakeholders and consumers. Jumeirah Zabeel Saray was the official hotel partner. [2]

Some of the activities included the Pepsi Band Slam, The Music Exhibition, Quincy Jones Seminars, Live Concerts, and Midem Music Conference and Workshops. Pepsi Band Slam, a jamming session included the region's most popular bands competing against each other. Bands from Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and United Arab Emirates represented diversity in local musical talents. Some of the local bands included Nikotin, Run Junction, Adonis, Empty Chair,J-Fam, and Reset String.

The event was attended by musicians, producers, managers, journalists, labels, app developers and content creators from around the globe. The Michael Jackson Dream Team Seminar hosted Quincy Jones, Rod Temperton, and Bruce Swedien, with music journalist Ben Fong-Torres moderating. The Producers Panel, also MC'd by Fong-Torres, included Quincy Jones, Timbaland, and Will.i.am, who discussed the subject of music production and judged a talent selection competition, the winner receiving a recording and production contract. Five artists were invited to take part in this exclusive showcase: Jay Wud, Hamdan Abri, DD Foxx, Xriss Jor, and Nile. [1]

Burj Al Arab Luxury hotel in Dubai

The Burj Al Arab is a luxury hotel located in the city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Managed by Jumeirah hotel group, it is one of the tallest hotels in the world, although 39% of its total height is made up of non-occupiable space. Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 m (920 ft) from Jumeirah Beach and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. The shape of the structure is designed to resemble the sail of a ship. It has a helipad near the roof at a height of 210 m (689 ft) above ground.

Area Festival

The Area Festival was a music festival founded by popular electronic musician Moby, who asserted that he was "in large part, inspired by the ethos of Lollapalooza", and wished to create a similarly "genuinely eclectic, interesting, alternative music festival". Moby organized the first such festival, called Area:One in 2001, and the sequel tour Area2, in 2002. The festival is currently on indefinite hiatus. The festival featured diverse genres of music. Besides headliner Moby, the main stage mostly featured rock and pop acts. The second stage was an air-conditioned tent where electronic, dance and smaller bands performed.

The İzmir European Jazz Festival, is a cultural event held in the first half of every March in İzmir, Turkey. It offers a selection of jazz music performances with the participations of renowned artists and music groups from Europe and Turkey. The festival was first held in 1994 and is organized by the İzmir Foundation for Culture, Arts and Education. It is co-sponsored by the consulates of some European countries in İzmir and Istanbul. İzmir Jazz Festival is a member of the Union of European Festivals.

Jal (band) Rock band

Jal is a pop rock band from Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The band originally consisted of songwriter, vocalist and lead guitarist, Goher Mumtaz and vocalist, Atif Aslam and later joined by bass guitarist Omer Nadeem and later Salman Albert joined on drums in 2003. Founded in 2002, they first became popular playing in Lahore's underground music scene with the release of their song "Aadat".

Tourism in Dubai

Tourism in Dubai is a part of the Dubai government's strategy to maintain the flow of foreign cash into the emirates. In May 2013, the government of Dubai launched the Dubai Tourism Strategy 2020, with the key objective to attract 20 million visitors a year by 2020 and making Dubai a first choice destination for international leisure travellers as well as business travellers. In 2018, the strategy was expanded by setting new goals of attracting 21-23 million visitors in 2022 and 23-25 million visitors by 2025.

Farhan Saeed Pakistani actor and singer

Farhan Saeed is a Pakistani singer-songwriter, actor, director, and entrepreneur. Farhan was the former lead vocalist of the Pakistani band Jal and is the owner of the restaurant Cafe Rock in Lahore. He has sung in Urdu as well as in Punjabi. Since 2014 he also turned towards acting, and gained recognition for his role in Hum TV's serial Udaari (2016) and for his leading role in another Hum TV serial Suno Chanda (2018).

Paulinho da Costa Brazilian musician

Paulinho da Costa is a Brazilian percussionist born in Rio de Janeiro, considered one of the most recorded musicians of modern times. Beginning his career as a samba musician in Brazil, he moved to the United States in the early 1970s and worked with Brazilian bandleader Sérgio Mendes. He went on to perform with many American pop, rock and jazz musicians and participated in thousands of albums. DownBeat magazine call him "one of the most talented percussionists of our time." He was an artist on Michael Jackson's Thriller, Madonna's True Blue, Celine Dion's Let's Talk About Love, hit singles and movie soundtracks, including Saturday Night Fever, Dirty Dancing and Purple Rain among others. He has also toured with Diana Krall. He plays over 200 instruments professionally, and has worked in a variety of music genres including Brazilian, blues, Christian, country, disco, gospel, hip hop, jazz, Latin, pop, rhythm and blues, rock, soul, and world music. He was signed to Norman Granz's Pablo Records for three of his solo albums, Agora, Happy People and Sunrise, as well as Breakdown. Da Costa received the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences' Most Valuable Player Award for three consecutive years. He also received the Musicians Emeritus Award.

Art in Dubai is an emerging activity in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. New galleries such as Carbon 12 Dubai, art fairs, artists, art patrons and collectors have grown in number.

Mohamed Abozekry & Heejaz

Mohamed Abozekry & Heejaz is a Franco-Egyptian band of instrumental music formed in 2010. Led by the young music prodigy Mohamed Abozekry who received the first prize at the international Oud competition in Damascus in 2009, the quartet also includes: Guillaume Hogan (Guitar), Anne Laure Bourget and Hugo Reydet.

Mark Edgar Thomas Robinson is a British artist specializing in Contemporary Golf Paintings, who was the first official Artist in residence for the season ending, PGA European Tour 'Race to Dubai' Final 2009 - 2013.

Xriss Jor is a Lebanese singer and artist. Born and raised in Yahchouch, Mont-Liban, Lebanon she was first featured on The Voice Ahla Sawt. In 2012, Jor came in fourth but went on to win the Dubai Music Week in 2013 where she received a management contract with Quincy Jones. Jor went on to cover Michael Jackson's "Care About Us" to comment on the garbage crisis happening in Lebanon, with Quincy's full support of her political statement. Her version of the song not only supports the "You Stink" movement in Lebanon, but also is a commentary on political dysfunction in Lebanon.
