Dwaram Lakshmi is an Indian singer of classical carnatic and Hindustani music. She performs the bhajanas of Meera and Tulasidas and other composers of devotional music.
Dr Lakshmi participated in Radio Sangeetha Sammelan during 2007 and 2008. She has conducted workshops [1] to popularise carnatic music.
Lakshmi is the granddaughter of violinist 'Sangeetha Kalanidhi', Padmasree Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu [2] and daughter of 'Sangeetha Kalaprapurna' Dwaram Bhavanarayana Rao [3] and 'Veena Vidushi' Smt. Dwaram Venkata Varadamma. Dwaram Anantha Venkata Swamy, a Civil Engineer working in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, is her brother. [4] Dr.Dwaram Tyagaraj, her brother is also a very well established singer.
Dr. Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna was an Indian Carnatic vocalist, musician, multi-instrumentalist, playback singer, composer, and character actor. He was awarded the Madras Music Academy's Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1978. He has garnered two National Film Awards, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1975, the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honor in 1991, for his contribution towards arts, the Mahatma Gandhi Silver Medal from UNESCO in 1995, the Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government in 2005, the Sangeetha Kalanidhi by Madras Music Academy, and the Sangeetha Kalasikhamani in 1991, by the Fine Arts Society, Chennai to name a few.
Damal Krishnaswamy Pattammal, popularly known as D. K. Pattammal or DKP, was an Indian Carnatic musician and a playback singer for film songs in Tamil. She along with her contemporaries M. S. Subbulakshmi and M. L. Vasanthakumari are popularly referred to as the female trinity of Carnatic Music. This trio initiated the entry of women into mainstream Carnatic Music. She has been appreciated all over the world by Carnatic music lovers.
There were eminent mridangam artists like "Mrudanga Kesari" Mullapudi Lakshmana Rao and his son Mullapudi Sri Rama Murty. And his disciple " Mrudanga Shiromani" Dharmala Rama Murty and his son Dharmala Venkateshwara Rao. There were other legends like ML Lakshminarayana Raju and Kamalakara Rao.
Dr. Natesan Ramani, commonly known as N. Ramani or N. Flute Ramani, was an Indian Carnatic flautist. He was awarded the Madras Music Academy's Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1996. Ramani is also credited with introducing the long flute into Carnatic music.
