Dying to Live is the first full-length studio album by Joel Hoekstra's 13. It was released on October 16, 2015 by Frontiers Records.
American guitarist Joel Hoekstra is known as a member of the band Whitesnake and for being a former member of Night Ranger. He also contributed to the works of Trans-Siberian Orchestra and to the Broadway musical Rock of Ages . The album was originally announced as a collaboration of Hoekstra with vocalist Russell Allen (Symphony X, Adrenaline Mob) on lead vocals, Vinny Appice (ex-Dio and ex-Black Sabbath) on drums and Tony Franklin (ex-Blue Murder, The Firm and ex-Whitesnake) on bass, with vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (of Talisman, W.E.T., Takara, Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force, Humanimal, Soul SirkUS, Axel Rudi Pell and Trans-Siberian Orchestra fame) on backing vocals. Later, Joel Hoekstra decided to record more tracks with Soto on lead vocals and add keyboard player Derek Sherinian to record a few solos. [1]
The album also features guest appearances by Toby Hitchcock (Pride of Lions) and Chloe Lowery (Trans-Siberian Orchestra). [2]

He first became known in the 1980s for his neoclassical playing style in heavy metal, and has released 22 studio albums in a career spanning over 40 years. In August 2009, Time magazine named Malmsteen No. 9 on its list of the 10 best electric guitar players of all time.
Derek Sherinian is an American keyboardist of Armenian descent who has toured and recorded for Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, and Joe Bonamassa, among others. He was also a member of Dream Theater from 1994 to 1999, is the founder of Planet X and also one of the founding members of Black Country Communion, Sons of Apollo, and Whom Gods Destroy. He has released nine solo albums that have featured a variety of prominent guest musicians, including guitarists Slash, Yngwie Malmsteen, Allan Holdsworth, Steve Lukather, Joe Bonamassa, Michael Schenker, Steve Vai and Al Di Meola, and extensively drummer Simon Phillips.

Mats Levén is a Swedish singer. Some of his most notable collaborations have been with guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, symphonic metallers Therion and doom metallers Candlemass. In 2011, due to family issues on the part of Firewind's lead singer Apollo, Levén was called in to substitute for the rest of their European tour. He also started touring with Trans-Siberian Orchestra in 2016. In 2019, he released his first solo album under the name Skyblood. In 2022, he became a member of Vandenberg which is led by the well known guitarist, Adrian Vandenberg.
Marcel Karl Jacob was a Swedish musician, best known as the founder, chief songwriter, and bassist of the hard rock band Talisman. For a brief period, he also played in the band Europe and with Yngwie Malmsteen. Jacob was also a skilled lead guitarist, occasionally playing guitar solos on albums where he felt the guitarist did not perform to his standards.
Jeff Scott Soto is an American rock singer of Puerto Rican descent. He is best known for being the vocalist on Yngwie Malmsteen's first two albums, and the lead vocalist for Journey in 2006–07.

Joel Hoekstra is an American guitarist currently in the band Whitesnake. Hoekstra also tours as a guitarist for Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The son of classical musicians, he started out playing cello and piano at a young age, but it was hearing Angus Young of AC/DC that inspired him to start playing the guitar. He was raised in the suburbs of Chicago, in Orland Park, but has lived in New York City since 2001.
