Rap rock is a music genre that developed from the early to mid-1980s, when hip hop DJs incorporated rock records into their routines and rappers began incorporating original and sampled rock instrumentation into hip hop music. Rap rock is considered to be rock music in which lyrics are rapped, rather than sung. The genre achieved its greatest success in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Jonathan H. Smith, better known by his stage name Lil Jon, is an American rapper, record producer and hype man. He was instrumental in the commercial breakthrough of the hip hop subgenre crunk in the early 2000s, and is often credited as a progenitor of the genre. He was the frontman of the crunk group Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz, with whom he has released five albums. In addition, Lil Jon served as a record producer for most recordings by artists of whom popularized the genre; these include Miami-based rapper Pitbull, Bay Area-based rappers Too Short and E-40, and fellow Atlanta-based artists Ludacris, Ciara, and Usher.
Hip-hop or hip hop, also known as rap, and formerly known as disco rap, is a genre of popular music that originated in the early 1970s by African Americans and Caribbean immigrants in the Bronx, a borough of New York City. Hip-hop music originated as an anti-drug and anti-violence genre consisting of stylized rhythmic music that often accompanies rapping, a rhythmic delivery of poetic speech. According to the professor Asante of African American studies at Temple University, "hip hop is something that blacks can unequivocally claim as their own". The music developed as part of the broader hip hop culture, a subculture defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching with turntables, breakdancing, and graffiti art. While often used to refer solely to rapping and rap music, "hip hop" more properly denotes the practice of the entire subculture. The term hip hop music is sometimes used synonymously with the term rap music, though rapping is not a required component of hip hop music; the genre may also incorporate other elements of the culture, including DJing, turntablism, scratching, beatboxing, and instrumental tracks.

Trap is a subgenre of hip hop music that originated in the Southern United States, with lyrical references to trap starting in 1991 but the modern sound of trap appearing in 1999. The genre gets its name from the Atlanta slang term "trap house", a house used exclusively to sell drugs. Trap music uses synthesized drums and is characterized by complex hi-hat patterns, tuned kick drums with a long decay, and lyrical content that often focuses on drug use and urban violence. It utilizes very few instruments and focuses almost exclusively on snare drums and double- or triple-timed hi-hats.
Drill is a subgenre of hip hop music that originated in Chicago in the early 2010s. It is sonically similar to the trap music subgenre and lyrically similar to the gangsta rap subgenre. Early drill artists are noted for their explicit, confrontational style of lyricism and association with crime in Chicago, especially the Black Disciples and Gangster Disciples. The genre progressed into the American mainstream in 2012 following the success of pioneering rappers like Chief Keef, Lil Reese, Lil Durk, Fredo Santana, G Herbo, Lil Bibby and King Louie, who had many local fans and a significant internet presence alongside producer Young Chop. Other rappers, such as L’A Capone, RondoNumbaNine, SD, FBG Duck and Lil Jojo, also contributed to the early drill scene. As the audience grew, media attention and the signing of drill musicians to major labels followed.
Cloud rap is a subgenre of rap that has several sonic characteristics of trap music and is known for its hazy, dreamlike and relaxed production style. Rapper Lil B and producer Clams Casino have been identified as the early pioneers of the style. The term "cloud rap" is derived from its internet origins and ethereal style.
Makonnen Kamali Sheran, better known by his stage name iLoveMakonnen, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Makonnen is best known for his 2014 hit "Tuesday" which featured Canadian rapper Drake.
Khaled Mohammed Khaled, known professionally as DJ Khaled, is an American disc jockey, record producer, and record executive. Originally a Miami-based radio hype man, Khaled has become known for his extensive curation of high-profile music industry artists and producers to record singles or albums. His distinctions are his booming voice presence, "motivational" abstractions, and numerous catchphrases. While his musical contribution is often questioned, Khaled's role has been described as "organization, direction, [and] promotion".
Ratchet is a slang term in American hip hop culture that, in its original sense, was a derogatory term used to refer to an uncouth woman, and may be a Louisianan dialect form of the word "wretched".
Jordan Terrell Carter, known professionally as Playboi Carti, is an American rapper and singer-songwriter. An influential figure among his generation, he has contributed to the progression of rage and trap music. Initially signed to local underground record label Awful Records, Carter later signed with ASAP Mob's record label AWGE in a joint venture with Interscope Records. After gaining a cult following early in his career, Carter garnered mainstream attention following the release of his eponymous debut mixtape (2017), which debuted at number 12 on the US Billboard 200 and included the Billboard Hot 100-charting singles "Magnolia" and "Wokeuplikethis".
Gustav Elijah Åhr, known professionally as Lil Peep, was an American rapper and singer-songwriter. He was a member of the emo rap collective GothBoiClique. Helping pioneer an emo revival-style of rap and rock music, Lil Peep has been credited as a leading figure of the mid–late 2010s emo rap scene and came to be an inspiration to outcasts and youth subcultures.
Emo rap is a fusion genre of hip hop and emo music. Originating in the SoundCloud rap scene in the mid-2010s, the genre fuses characteristics of hip hop music, such as beats and rapping, with the lyrical themes, instrumentals, and vocals commonly found in emo music. Lil Peep, XXXTentacion, and Juice Wrld are some of the most notable musicians in the genre.
"Spotlight" is a song by American music producer Marshmello and American rapper Lil Peep. It was released on January 12, 2018, as a tribute to Peep following his death. Marshmello initially had no plans of releasing the song until Peep's mother made a request. The song is the rapper's first posthumous release.
"Awful Things" is a song by American rapper Lil Peep featuring fellow American rapper Lil Tracy from his first studio album, Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 1 (2017). It was released as the third single from the album on July 28, 2017. The track was produced by Smokeasac and IIVI, and written by George Astasio, Jason Pebworth, Jon Shave, Michael Blackburn and the artists themselves. The song is Lil Peep's third highest charting single in the United States, peaking at number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 following his death on November 15, 2017.

Jarad Anthony Higgins, known professionally as Juice Wrld, was an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. Throughout his career of four years, he was a leading figure in the emo rap and SoundCloud rap genres which garnered mainstream attention during the mid-to-late 2010s. His stage name, which he stated represents "taking over the world", was derived from the crime thriller film Juice (1992).
Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 2 is the second studio album by American rapper and singer Lil Peep. It was released on November 9, 2018, by AUTNMY through Columbia Records. An emo rap album, Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 2 is a sequel to Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 1, and contains similar themes about topics such as cocaine and drug use, depression, suicide, and relationships, delivered through deadpan vocals and alternative rock inspired compositions.
"Falling Down" is a song by late American rappers Lil Peep and XXXTentacion. It was included as a bonus track on the deluxe edition of the former's second studio album Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 2 (2018). The song was posthumously released as the lead single from the album on September 19, 2018. The track was produced by IIVI, John Cunningham, and Mike Will Made It. "Falling Down" was originally a song by and written by Lil Peep and fellow American rapper and singer iLoveMakonnen under the title "Sunlight on Your Skin", with XXXTentacion also receiving a writing credit for the final version.
Dayvon Daquan Bennett, known professionally as King Von, was an American drill rapper from Chicago, Illinois. He is largely considered one of the most influential figures who represent the drill genre.
