E. K. Duraiswamy was elected to the state of Tamil Nadu Member of Legislative Assembly from the Gudiyatham constituency in the year 1971 election. He was a candidate of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party. He was the First MLA from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Gudiyatham Constituency. He got 34954 votes and succeeded D.A. This election marked the first time the state saw a hung assembly with no party gaining a majority of its own. And Third time Winner of Tamilnadu Legislative Assembly in ulundurpet constituency.He later contested the Ulundurpet assembly constituency from 2021 to 2026 on behalf of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam against DMK and lost by a margin of 5,256 votes and 2.17%.
