The ECAC West men's tournament was a Division III conference tournament held from establishment of the ECAC West as an independent league until the dissolution of the conference in 2017.

History

The ECAC West men's tournament began in 1985, a year after the ECAC West split from ECAC 2 and followed the same format it had during the time in its predecessor. In the first 8 years the champion received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. In 1992 an effort was made by some universities to restart the Division II Championship. Because Mercyhurst was one such team all SUNYAC members were forced to leave the conference and membership dropped to 7 schools. This necessitated a change to the conference tournament which was decreased from 8 to 4 participants. During the 90's the league would routinely send members to both the D-II and D-III national tournaments but all efforts at continuing the second-tier tournament ended after 1998.

The 4-member tournament continued unabated until 2007 when a single quarterfinal game was instituted. This arrangement held for six years before a second quarterfinal match was instituted and the 6-team tournament continued until the entire tournament was discontinued in 2017 due to the conference's dissolution.

The Mercyhurst Lakers men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association hockey team that represents Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania under Head Coach Rick Gotkin. The team is currently a Division I hockey team playing out of the Mercyhurst Ice Center located on the school campus. The Mercyhurst Lakers started out as a club sport at the school, moving up to Division III, followed by Division II, and now plays in Division I in Atlantic Hockey America, formed shortly after the 2023–24 season by the merger of the Lakers' former home, the Atlantic Hockey Association, with College Hockey America. After joining their step up into Division I in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 1998, the Lakers have won their conference tournament making NCAA tournament appearances in 2001, 2003, and 2005.

The RIT Tigers women's ice hockey team is one of two college ice hockey teams representing Rochester Institute of Technology in suburban Rochester, New York. The team moved to NCAA Division I women's ice hockey as a member of College Hockey America (CHA) for the 2012–13 season, after many years at Division III as part of the ECAC West conference. The Tigers' conference affiliation was transferred to Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) following the merger of CHA and the Atlantic Hockey Association in April 2024.

The ECAC 2 Tournament was a college ice hockey conference tournament played from 1967 until 1984. For several years it was the only championship held for lower-tier college programs under the oversight of the NCAA and served as the de facto NCAA national championship until 1978.

The 1985 NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the culmination of the 1984–85 NCAA Division III men's ice hockey season, the 2nd such tournament in NCAA history. It concluded with RIT defeating Bemidji State 5-1. All Quarterfinals matchups were held at home team venues, while all succeeding games were played in Schenectady, New York.

The 1977–78 NCAA Division II men's ice hockey season began in November 1977 and concluded on March 18 of the following year. This was the 14th season of second-tier college ice hockey.

The New York Collegiate Hockey Association was an intercollegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Second Division. The league was created in 1977 between 6 then-existing SUNYAC schools as well as Buffalo and Elmira.

The 1992–93 NCAA Division III men's ice hockey season began in October 1992 and concluded on March 27 of the following year. This was the 20th season of Division III college ice hockey.

Terry Meagher (muh-HAR) is a Canadian retired ice hockey forward and coach who was twice named as the Division III National Coach of Year.

The 2022–23 Princeton Tigers Men's ice hockey season was the 120th season of play for the program and the 61st in the ECAC Hockey conference. The Tigers represented the Princeton University, played their home games at the Hobey Baker Memorial Rink and were coached by Ron Fogarty, in his 8th season.
