The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), formerly the New Jersey State Athletic Conference, is an intercollegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division III. All of its current full members are public universities in New Jersey, although it will add one new full member from New York in 2026. Affiliate members are located in Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

On December 15, 2012, Providence and the other seven Catholic, non-FBS schools announced that they were departing the Big East for a new conference; on March 7, 2013, it was officially confirmed that Providence's new conference would operate under the Big East name. The women's volleyball team, which had been an associate member of the America East Conference before the Big East split, remained in that conference for one more season before joining the Big East for the 2014 season.

The name "Dukes" is derived from Samuel Page Duke, the university's second president. The Dukes play as members of the Sun Belt Conference (SBC), which sponsors sports at the NCAA Division I level. In football, JMU participates in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of Division I, formerly known as Division I-A. JMU was a charter member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA),. The Dukes officially left the CAA and joined the SBC in 2022, participating in Division I FBS football and other sports sponsored by the conference.

The Campus Center Hockey Arena is a 2,500-seat multi-purpose ice arena located in Cortland, New York on the campus of SUNY Cortland. The arena is also the home to the Cortland Red Dragons Men's and Women's ice hockey teams competing at the NCAA Division III level in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). As well as a men's club team competing at the ACHA Division I level in the Northeast Collegiate Hockey League, SUNY Cortland Figure Skating Club, intramural hockey, and broomball. And for recreation ice skating and figure skating.
The Christopher Newport Captains are the athletic teams that represent Christopher Newport University, located in Newport News, Virginia, in NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports. The Captains compete as members of the Coast to Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) for the majority of varsity sports except for football, which plays in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and men's lacrosse, which plays in the Coastal Lacrosse Conference. The football team remains a NJAC associate member because C2C does not sponsor football.

The Maritime Privateers are an intercollegiate athletic program in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III representing the State University of New York Maritime College. The Maritime Privateers compete primarily in the Skyline Conference for the majority of its sports, as well as the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) for football, Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) for sailing, and US Rowing for its rowing teams. The Maritime Privateers compete in 16 NCAA Division III varsity sports.
The Cortland Red Dragons men's lacrosse team represents SUNY Cortland in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III men's lacrosse. The Red Dragons compete in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and play home games in the city of Cortland, NY. The team was recently coached by Steve Beville, who led the Red Dragons to a national title in 2009 and retired after the 2023 season. Coach Lelan Rogers, who guided the Red Dragons to a 76–17 record from 2001 to 2005, returned to Cortland as the head coach in the fall of 2023. In addition to winning four national championships, Cortland has won a record 28 conference championships until 2022.
