        Local government in Scotland comprises thirty-two local authorities, commonly referred to as Scottish councils. Each council provides public services, including education, social care, waste management, libraries and planning.         Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood) covering part of the council area of Scottish Borders. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the plurality method of election. It is also one of nine constituencies in the South Scotland electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to the nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole.

        2017 Scottish Borders Council election

        Elections to Scottish Borders Council were held on 4 May 2017, the same day as the other Scottish local government elections. The election used the 11 wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, with each ward electing three or four Councillors using the single transferable vote system, a form of proportional representation, with 34 councillors elected.

        North East (Glasgow ward) Ward in Glasgow

        North East is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the ward boundaries were redrawn with a smaller size and population, and it returned three members.

        Milngavie (ward) Local government ward of East Dunbartonshire

        Milngavie is one of the seven wards used to elect members of the East Dunbartonshire Council. It elects three Councillors. Its territory consists of the entire burgh of Milngavie, and a sparsely populated hinterland to its north-west, bordering the West Dunbartonshire and Stirling local authority areas. In 2020, the ward had a population of 13,572.

        Dundee City Council is one of the 32 council areas for Scotland. It is divided into eight wards, used to elect members to the council to provide local government services to Dundee.
