Eastern Aleutian Tribes (EAT) was formed in 1991 and includes seven Aleut tribes from the Aleutian Islands and Alaska Peninsula.
Eastern Aleutian Tribes includes the Agdaagux Tribal Council (King Cove), Akutan Traditional Council (Akutan), Nelson Lagoon Tribal Council (Nelson Lagoon), Unga Tribal Council (Unga in Sand Point), Qagan Tayagungin Tribal Council (Sand Point), False Pass Tribal Council (False Pass) and the Pauloff Harbor Tribal Council (Sanak in Sand Point).
EAT provides medical, dental, optometric, and behavioral health services in federally qualified health centers in the communities of Adak, Akutan, Cold Bay, False Pass, King Cove, Nelson Lagoon, Sand Point, St. George, and Whittier. This comprises over 100,000 square miles of remote territory.
From its roots as a small Native health organization, EAT has matured into a progressive Native health organization within the Alaska Tribal Health System. EAT started out with a handful of employees and a budget under $500,000. It has grown into a corporation with over 100 employees and an operating budget of $9.2 million, offering professional health services utilizing physicians (MD's and DO's,) mid-level practitioners (PA's and NP's) and Community Health Aides / Practitioners. EAT intends to continue to improve services in all aspects of health care, supporting the well-being of the Aleut people.
Aleuts are the Indigenous people of the Aleutian Islands, which are located between the North Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea. Both the Aleuts and the islands are politically divided between the US state of Alaska and the Russian administrative division of Kamchatka Krai. This group is also known as the Unangax̂ (Oo-NUNG-ukh) in Unangam Tunuu, the Aleut language. There are 13 federally recognized Aleut tribes in the Aleut Region of Alaska. In 2000, Aleuts in Russia were recognized by government decree as a small-numbered Indigenous people.
Aleutians East Borough is a 2nd class borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. As of the 2020 census the borough's population was 3,420. The borough seat is Sand Point.
Akutan is a city on Akutan Island in the Aleutians East Borough of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, United States. The population was 1,589 at the 2020 census, up from 1,027 in 2010, making it the 4th fastest-growing city of the decade in Alaska. Akutan Harbor is adjacent.
King Cove is a city in Aleutians East Borough, Alaska, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 938, up from 792 in 2000, but at the 2020 census this had reduced to 757.
Nelson Lagoon is a census-designated place (CDP) in Aleutians East Borough, Alaska, United States. At the 2020 census the population was 41, down from 52 in 2010 and 83 in 2000.
Sand Point, also known as Popof Island, is a city in Aleutians East Borough, Alaska, United States. At the 2010 census the population was 976, up from 952 in 2000, but by the 2020 Census this had reduced to 578. It is on northwestern Popof Island, one of the Shumagin Islands, off the Alaska Peninsula. It is the borough seat of Aleutians East Borough, and is near the entrance to the Bering Sea.
Alaska Natives are the Indigenous peoples of Alaska and include Iñupiat, Yupik, Aleut, Eyak, Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian, and a number of Northern Athabaskan cultures. They are often defined by their language groups. Many Alaska Natives are enrolled in federally recognized Alaska Native tribal entities, who in turn belong to 13 Alaska Native Regional Corporations, who administer land and financial claims.
Popof Island is an island in the Shumagin Islands south of mainland Alaska. The largest community in the area, Sand Point, is located on the northwest coast. Popof Island is 10 miles (16 km) long, 5 miles (8.0 km) wide and the peak elevation is 1,550 feet. It is located at 55°18′49″N160°22′29″W. It has a land area of 93.651 km2 and a total population of 578 persons at the 2020 census.
Akun Island is one of the Fox Islands subgroup of the Aleutian Islands in the Aleutians East Borough of southwestern Alaska.
Andrew Gronholdt was a famous Aleut from Sand Point, Alaska, in the Shumagin Islands south of the lower Alaska Peninsula and became famous for rejuvenating the ancient Unangan art of carving hunting hats called chagudax. In January 2012, a book was published posthumously by Gronholdt titled "Chagudax: A Small Window into the Life of An Aleut Bentwood Hat Carver" Gronholdt's woodworking techniques, wood steaming and bending methods, and instructional design methodologies were legendary.

ARSD is the school district in the United States that is both the farthest east and the farthest west. Big Koniuji Island is an island located in the Aleutians East Borough, Gulf of Alaska, southwest of mainland Alaska, United States. It is part of the Shumagin Islands, which consist of 20 islands, and lies southeast of Popof Island.
Agdaagux Tribe of King Cove is a federally recognized tribe based in Belkofski, Alaska. Population is found to be 845 people, 170 households, and 116 families in King Cove as of 2022. The tribe is descended from both Unangax and non-Native people.
