Eddie Musonda (born 27 March 1956) [1] is a Zambian politician. He served as Member of the National Assembly for Kapiri Mposhi from 2013 until 2016.

Zambia republic in southern Africa

Zambia, officially the Republic of Zambia, is a landlocked country in south-central Africa. Its neighbors are the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Tanzania to the north-east, Malawi to the east, Mozambique to the southeast, Zimbabwe and Botswana to the south, Namibia to the southwest, and Angola to the west. Biography

Musonda studied for a BA in Public Administration and Political Sciences, and also gained qualifications in personnel and health management. [1] He contested the Kapiri Mposhi seat as the Patriotic Front candidate in the 2011 general elections, but was defeated by Lawrence Zimba of the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy by a margin of 7,000 votes. [2] However, Musonda successfully challenged the result in the Supreme Court, resulting in a by-election on 23 April 2013. [3] Musonda emerged as the winner and became a member of the National Assembly. [4]

Patriotic Front (Zambia) political party in Zambia

The Patriotic Front (PF) is the ruling political party in Zambia. The party was formed by Michael Sata as a breakaway party of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy in 2001 after the President Frederick Chiluba nominated Levy Mwanawasa as its presidential candidate for 2001 elections. After several years, the PF gained power in the 2011 general elections. The party is a consultative member of Socialist International and was admitted in February 2013.

2011 Zambian general election general election

General elections were held in Zambia on 20 September 2011, electing a President and members of the National Assembly. Michael Sata of the Patriotic Front (PF) won the presidential elections, defeating incumbent Rupiah Banda of the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD), and was sworn into office on 23 September. The PF emerged as the largest party in the National Assembly, winning 60 of the 148 seats decided on election day.

Lawrence Zimba is a Zambian politician. He served as Member of the National Assembly for Kapiri Mposhi from 2011 until 2013.

As an MP, Musonda joined the Committee on Education, Science and Technology in January 2015. [1] He was not selected as the Patriotic Front candidate for Kapiri Mposhi for the 2016 general elections, which saw the seat won by Stanley Kakubo of the United Party for National Development.

2016 Zambian general election

General elections were held in Zambia on 11 August 2016 to elect the President and National Assembly. A constitutional referendum was held alongside the elections, with proposals to amend the bill of rights and Article 79.
