Edgar Carrasco Arteaga (born Cuenca, Ecuador, 1946) is an Ecuadorian painter and sculptor.

Biography

Carrasco's love for art began in childhood, with drawings of animals which eventually won him the Paris Prize.[ clarification needed ] Carrasco lived in Paris for year, during which time he visited museums such as the Louvre and saw exhibitions of the great masters of European art. For several years, he was employed making trophies for the Delta Advertising Awards. He also briefly visited Asia and Russia, exhibiting in Singapore and Japan in 2008.

Work

Carrasco works mainly in copper, which he calls "the legitimate child of the Sun," [1] but also works with bronze, silver and iron, using special techniques such as plating copper pipes with other metals such as silver. Among his most notable works are a mural at the Hotel Cosmos in Bogota; a sculpture of Oswaldo Guayasamín in plaster; and a sculpture of Don Quixote in wrought iron. His works can be seen at the Alliance Francaise de Quito, and the Oswaldo Guayasamín museum.

His latest works include a kinetic sculpture erected in the Paseo de la Juventud Plaza in Machala. The work comprises polished copper pipes protruding at different angles. "Copper interprets light," Carrasco notes. He leaves his works untitled, leaving the viewer to impose their own title.

Alfredo Pareja Diezcanseco — born Alfredo Pareja y Díez Canseco — was a prominent Ecuadorian novelist, essayist, journalist, historian and diplomat. An innovator of the 20th-century Latin American novel, he was a founding member of the literary Grupo de Guayaquil. The government of President Jaime Roldós Aguilera (1979–81) appointed him Chancellor of the Republic and he served as Foreign Minister of Ecuador (1979–80) and Ambassador to France (1983–84).

Aníbal Villacís was a master painter from Ecuador who used raw earthen materials such as clay and natural pigments to paint on walls and doors throughout his city when he could not afford expensive artist materials. As a teenager, Villacís taught himself drawing and composition by studying and recreating the illustrated ad posters for bullfights in Quito. In 1952, Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra, former President of Ecuador, discovered Villacís and offered him a scholarship to study in Paris.


Oswaldo Viteri is a neo-figurative artist. Viteri gained recognition for his assemblage work, but has worked in a wide variety of media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, and mosaics. He began his education as a student of architecture at the Central University of Quito in 1951. Viteri worked in the workshop of Oswaldo Guayasamín and in 1959 assisted him on a mural commission for the Ministry of Public Works. During the 1960s he focused on painting and studying anthropology and folklore. In 1966, Viteri finished his degree in architecture and was appointed director of the Ecuadorian Institute of Folklore. He began to explore more experimental techniques of making art by incorporating collage and objects into his canvases. He made his first assemblage works in 1968 and appeared in his first "happening" that same year in Quito. He began to exhibit his work internationally in the 1960s, including in the 1964 Biennale of Córdoba, Argentina, and in the 1969 São Paulo Biennial for which he received honorable mention. His work became more sculptural in the 1970s as he began his Multiples series of assemblage works that use rag dolls and found objects. He has been twice candidate to the Prince of Asturias Awards. Mr. Viteri's house in northern Quito is now a museum, welcoming visitors by appointment.

Juan Soriano Mexican artist

Juan Soriano was a Mexican artist known for his paintings, sculptures and theater work. He was a child prodigy whose career began early as did his fame with various writers authoring works about him. He exhibited in the United States and Europe as well as major venues in Mexico such as the Museo de Arte Moderno and the Palacio de Bellas Artes. His monumental sculptures can be found in various parts of Mexico and in Europe as well. Recognitions of his work include Mexico's National Art Prize, the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres and membership in France's Legion of Honour.

La Capilla del Hombre

The painter Oswaldo Guayasamín´s La Capilla del Hombre occupies a site in Bellavista overlooking the city of Quito, Ecuador. The Capilla is a purpose-built art museum dedicated to the peoples of Latin America. Construction of Guayasamín's masterpiece began in 1995 and unfortunately was not completed until 2002, after his death.

Oswaldo Vigas Venezuelan artist

Oswaldo Vigas was a Venezuelan artist, best known as a painter and muralist. His work includes painting, sculpture, prints, drawings, ceramics and tapestries. His artwork was created between France and Venezuela, and it's an original synthesis of the cultural roots of Latin America and the latest artistic currents of modernity. He has had over one hundred solo exhibitions and is represented in numerous public institutions and private collections around the world. He is predominantly recognized as a self-taught artist and painter.

Oswaldo Moreno Heredia was an Ecuadorian painter. His paintings are in collections in the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, including El Museo De Arte Moderno del Banco Central, El Museo De La Casa De Cultura, and in the Alianza Francesa Galleries. Moreno was featured in "El Grupo Van - 30 Anos Despues" with eight other Ecuadorian painters. Moreno created around ten thousand works of art located around the world. He died at the age of 82 in Quito, Ecuador of diabetes.

Oswaldo Maciá

Oswaldo Maciá is a sculptor. Born in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, he is based in London. Maciá works primarily with sound and smell. In his work he endeavours 'to extend the meaning of sculpture' beyond an ocularcentric understanding of the arts.
