The Edinburgh Youth Choir or eyc is a choir based in Edinburgh, Scotland and intended for members aged between 14 and 24.

The choir was established by Jane Kirk and Dorcas Owen in 2000 as the junior choir of the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union, with the principal aim of providing vocal training through a variety of musical styles. [1]

The choir rehearses at Augustine United Church on George IV Bridge. [2] The current musical director is James Slimings, who replaced Wayne Weaver at the start of the 2014–15 season. Accompanist Joanna Stewart has been with eyc since 2003.

The choir performs regularly throughout the year. Annual events include a spring concert at Edinburgh's Canongate Kirk, [3] Christmas with the Choral and performances at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and National Museum of Scotland. [4]

Other projects have included joint concerts with ERCU at St Cuthbert's Church [5] and the McEwan Hall, [6] the World premiere of Shadow Aspect by Judith Bingham [7] and a recording for BBC Radio 2's Sunday Half Hour. [8]

The Kirk of the Canongate, or Canongate Kirk, serves the Parish of Canongate in Edinburgh's Old Town, in Scotland. It is a congregation of the Church of Scotland. The parish includes the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Scottish Parliament. It is also the parish church of Edinburgh Castle, even though the castle is detached from the rest of the parish. The wedding of Zara Phillips, the Queen's granddaughter, and former England rugby captain Mike Tindall took place at the church on 30 July 2011. Robert "Bob" Chilcott is a British choral composer, conductor, and singer, based in Oxfordshire, England. He was a member of the King's Singers from 1985 to 1997, singing tenor. He has been a composer since 1997.

Nicola Benedetti British classical violinist

Nicola Joy Nadia Benedetti is a British-Italian classical solo violinist. Her ability was recognised when she was a child, including the award of BBC Young Musician of the Year when she was 16 and also many other awards. She works with orchestras in Europe and America as well as Alexei Grynyuk, her regular pianist. Since 2012 she has played the Gariel Stradivarius violin. She is the Director Designate of the Edinburgh International Festival, and will become Festival Director on 1 October 2022.

St Marys Music School Independent day and boarding school in Edinburgh, Scotland

St Mary's Music School is a music school in Scotland in the West End of Edinburgh, for boys and girls aged 9 to 19 and is also the Choir School of St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral. The school, which is non-denominational, provides education for children with a special talent in music, and is Scotland's only full-time independent specialist music school. In 2017 the school has 80 pupils from many different backgrounds and from all parts of Scotland, the rest of the UK and abroad - 49 day pupils and 31 boarders, plus one student on the school's Part-time Pathways to Specialism scheme.

National Youth Choir of Scotland

Let the Peoples Sing Award

Let the Peoples Sing is an international choral competition currently organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The final, encompassing three categories and around ten choirs, is offered as a live broadcast to all EBU members. The Silver Rose Bowl is awarded to the best choir in the competition.

Les Sirènes is a Glasgow-based women's chamber choir consisting of 26 vocalists, all students and graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In October 2012, the choir was awarded the prestigious title of Choir of the Year 2012, after an extensive UK-wide search and a competitive Grand Final held at London's Royal Festival Hall.

Edinburgh University Music Society

The Edinburgh University Music Society (EUMS) is a student-run musical organisation based in Edinburgh. Since its founding in 1867, the EUMS has been based within the University of Edinburgh.

The Bearsden Choir is a choir of 140 mixed adult voices based in Bearsden, Scotland. It was formed in 1968 and performs both sacred and secular classical choral works. The singer Jamie MacDougall is its Honorary President.
