Edmond Clint Fernandes is an Indian physician, author, preventive health consultant and the founder of CHD Group, a non-profit organization based in India that works in the field of global health. [1] [2]
Fernandes completed his schooling at Don Bosco High School, Matunga. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Father Muller Medical College, [3] and later completed a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Community Medicine at Yenepoya University. [4] [5] During his medical studies, he served as the chief editor of the student magazine Mullerpulse at Father Muller Medical College [6] and served the Atlantic Council as Senior Fellow. [7] Fernandes was a UHC scholar at Drexel University, Philadelphia. [8] He is the Chief of the Department of Public Health at Yenepoya University in Mangalore. [9] [10]
Fernandes has participated in disaster relief efforts including Typhoon Haiyan, Cyclone Fani, and the Kerala Floods, providing medical relief. [11] He has advocated for a ban on doctor's white coats [12] to prevent hospital acquired infections [13] and to regulate work hours of resident doctors to reduce preventable deaths. [14] In 2017, he spoke at the United Nations Regional Hub in Bangkok on how South–South cooperation at the ASEAN level can create a new world order in strengthening international development. [15]
Fernandes conducted a pilot project to address malnutrition in 2022-23 in Yelburga, Karnataka. [16] He co-founded Mission ICU. [17] [18] Fernandes led the implementation of the seat belt policy for road safety in Mangalore [ vague ] in the year 2015. [19] He has advocated for civilians to carry aspirin [20] in event of a heart attack. [21] [22] Fernandes highlighted the issue of how celibacy has health implications and may call for revisiting.
