Edmund R. McDavid served as the 26th Secretary of State of Alabama from 1904 to 1907.
Before McDavid became Secretary of State he was in the insurance industry. He worked for Southern Mutual Fire Insurance Company and the Birmingham Underwriters' Agency. He was appointed Secretary of State by Governor William D. Jelks. [1]
Edmund Winston Pettus was a lawyer and politician who represented Alabama in the United States Senate from 1897 to 1907. He served as a senior officer of the Confederate States Army,commanding infantry in the Western Theater of the American Civil War. After the war,he was politically active in the Ku Klux Klan,a domestic terrorist,racist and antisemitic organization,serving as a Grand Dragon.

The Edmund Pettus Bridge carries U.S. Route 80 Business across the Alabama River in Selma,Alabama. Built in 1940,it is named after Edmund Pettus,a former Confederate brigadier general,U.S. senator,and state-level leader of the Alabama Ku Klux Klan. The bridge is a steel through arch bridge with a central span of 250 feet (76 m). Nine large concrete arches support the bridge and roadway on the east side.
John Christian Luning was a mayor of the town of Leesburg,Florida,during the 1890s and Lake County Commissioner. He would go on to serve the shortest term as Florida's Commissioner of Agriculture for 14 days before going on to serve as State Treasurer of Florida. He was part of a group of Florida leaders known as the "Three Musketeers" –along with James B. Whitfield and William V. Knott –and had a bright political future before his sudden death in September 1928.

The Alabama Academy of Honor recognizes one hundred living Alabamians for outstanding accomplishments and services to Alabama and the United States. By act of the Alabama Legislature,only one hundred living people may be members at any time. Up to ten additional members per year are elected by current members when honorees pass away,by majority vote in order of highest vote total. Any Alabama citizen or Academy member may nominate people for election. Living present and past governors of Alabama are automatically members of the Academy and do not count against the 100-person maximum.
