The Edwards River is a river located in the north of New Zealand's Canterbury region. [1] It is the northern of the two rivers in New Zealand of this name.
A tributary of the Waiau Uwha River, it skirts the northern slopes of the Hanmer Range, flowing south then west for 15 km before joining the Waiau Uwha.
The river rises on the southern slopes of the Saint James Range, close to Mount Horrible and Mount Sadd. It initially flows south through a steep sided valley before turning westwards. In its middle reaches, the river's valley is broad and wide, with the river becoming a braided river with shingle banks. At its western end, it passes through a steep-sided gorge close to its junction with the Waiau Uwha.
The Port Hills are a range of hills in Canterbury Region of New Zealand, so named because they lie between the city of Christchurch and its port at Lyttelton. They are an eroded remnant of the Lyttelton volcano, which erupted millions of years ago.

The Anne River is a small river in Canterbury, New Zealand. It rises near the Anne Saddle and flows east then north for approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) until it meets the Henry River, itself a tributary of the Waiau Uwha River. The St James Walkway, a popular tramping track, follows the Anne River for its entire length, and the Anne Huts are located near the river's mouth.
The Bluff River is a river of New Zealand. It is in the Canterbury Region and is a tributary of the Waiau Toa / Clarence River. The Bluff River flows south for 10 kilometres (6 mi) from the slopes of Mount Major in the Inland Kaikōura Range. Confusingly, the Bluff Stream, another tributary of the Waiau Toa / Clarence, follows a largely parallel course 5 kilometres (3 mi) to the east.

The Hope River, in Canterbury, New Zealand, is a tributary of the Waiau Uwha River. It is one of three rivers by that name in the South Island.
The Stanley River is a river of the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. An upper tributary of the Waiau Uwha River, it rises on the southern flanks of the St James Range and flows southwest to reach the Waiau Uwha 17 kilometres (11 mi) east of the Lewis Pass. Lake Guyon drains to the Stanley River via a swampy tributary named Stanley Vale. In its lower reaches the river passes through a gorge known as Stanley Gate. The Fowler Pass Track follows the river for much of its length.
Lake Tennyson is a glacial high-country lake in Canterbury, New Zealand. The first European settler to see the lake was Frederick Weld in 1853, who also named it. The headwaters of the Waiau Toa / Clarence River are just to the north, and the river flows through Lake Tennyson.
Mount Woolley is a 1,743-metre-high (5,719 ft) mountain in Canterbury, in the South Island of New Zealand. It is located 12 kilometres west-north-west of the town of Hanmer Springs, close to the western end of the Hanmer Range, a curved ridge with several peaks between 1500 and 1900 metres in height. The highest peak in the range is the 1875-metre Mount Miromiro, located one kilometre to the west of Mount Woolley.
The Amuri Plain is the northernmost extension of New Zealand's Canterbury Plains. It lies between the Waiau Uwha and Hurunui Rivers and is centred on the town of Culverden. Other population centres on the plain include Rotherham. The plains cover approximately 60,000 hectares.
