Edyll Ismail is an Australian actress. She is best known for playing Leyla in the sci-fi series La Brea and Zuri in the horror thriller film Send Help .

Early life

Ismail was born in 1996 in Melbourne, Australia to parents from Somalia. She moved to Perth at the age of 5. She described Perth as a beautiful city but that it was away from all the fun. Before becoming interested in acting she was a big fan of archaeology and the Korean language. [1] She graduated with a degree in acting from the Edith Cowan University in 2023. [2]

Career

Her first experience acting came at the Perth Festival where she performed in the play Whistleblower. Her first appearance on screen came in the short film Forever. [3] Her first big role came playing Leyla in the sci-fi series La Brea . [4] She gained nationwide popularity for playing Zuri, the wife Dylan O'Brien in the horror thriller film Send Help starring Rachel McAdams. [5] [6] She played one of the convicts in 4 episodes of the Australian sitcom Ghosts . [7]

Personal life

Outside of acting Ismail along with WAAPA lecturers Gabrielle Metcalf and Emele Ugavule, as well as fellow actor Kalkidan Forward, to create Tell Your Story, aimed at giving ethnic communities a pathway into acting. [8]
