Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital is one of the ten regional hospitals of Ghana located in the Western Region. [1] It is a secondary health facility which also receives referrals from the Western corridor of Ghana. [2] [3] It was established in 1938 as military hospital by the Gold Coast government. [4] The hospital, known for its excellent services in various specialties, is located in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and provides a peaceful, healing-friendly environment. [5]

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana has uncover a statue of himself at the entrance of Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi as part of his one day "thank you" tour of the Western Region. Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah declared that the statue was put up in honour of the President for the diverse initiatives he has undertaken. [6] [7]

On the part of the President, he said he has achieved 80 percent of the promises made to the people of Ghana. [8]

Founded in 1938, the hospital has grown into a major healthcare provider in the region.

The council's mandate Is enshrined under section 4(1) of N.R.C.D. 117.

Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly is one of the fourteen districts in Western Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan District in 1988, which was created from the former Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Authority Council, until the eastern part of the district was split off to create Shama District on 29 February 2008; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan District. However on 15 March 2018, the western part of the district was split off to become Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal District; thus, the remaining part has been retained as Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan District. The metropolis is located in the southeast part of Western Region and has Sekondi-Takoradi as its capital town.

The Oti Region is one of the six newly created regions of Ghana in December 2018. The region was carved out of the Volta Region and will be in fulfillment of a campaign promise made by New Patriotic Party. On 20 January 2022, a large explosion occurred along the Tarkwa-Bogoso-Ayamfuri road in Western Region, Ghana, after a truck transporting mining explosives collided with a motorcycle. The explosion levelled the nearby Apiate village, killing 13 people and injuring 200.
