Two Greek films, Missing (1982) and Eternity and a Day (1998), have won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Ramin Bahrani is an Iranian-American director and screenwriter. Eastern Plays is a 2009 Bulgarian drama film. The feature-length debut of Bulgarian director Kamen Kalev, Eastern Plays features Hristo Hristov, Ovanes Torosyan, Saadet Aksoy and Nikolina Yancheva. The cinema of Venezuela is the production and industry of filmmaking in Venezuela. Venezuelan cinema has been characterised from its outset as propaganda, partially state-controlled and state-funded, commercial cinema. The nation has seen a variety of successful films, which have reaped several international awards. Still, in terms of quality, it is said that though "we can point to specific people who have made great films in Venezuela [and] a couple of great moments in the history of Venezuelan cinema, [...] those have been exceptions". In the 21st century, Venezuelan cinema has seen more independence from the government, but has still been described as recently as 2017 to be at least "influenced" by the state.

Arpa Foundation for Film, Music and Art and “Best Foreign Film”, NYC Downtown Film Festival, participated in Marche du Film del Cannes Film Festival “As you like it”. The feature was also part of the official selection of the Calcutta Film Festival 2009, the Mérida Film Festival 2009, the Havana Film Festival 2009 and the Margarita Film Festival 2009. He received the “MARA DE ORO” for best movie director in 2009.
The Liberator is a 2013 Spanish–Venezuelan historical drama film directed by Alberto Arvelo, starring Édgar Ramírez as Simón Bolívar. It was screened in the Special Presentation section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. It was selected as the Venezuelan entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards, making the January Shortlist.
