The Egyptian Integrated Soldier System (EISS) is an integrated surveillance and aiming ensemble that provides images from different electro/optical devices to a head-mounted display (HMD), and links these optics to either the daylight scope of an RPG-7 or a targeting dot sight on a machine gun or assault rifle. [1] The Cairo-based AIO company, founded in 1984 and belonging to the Egypt Ministry of Defence, is currently providing the Egyptian military with the EISS (Egyptian Integrated Soldier System). [2]
The Egyptian Integrated Soldier System consists of surveillance, aiming and control equipment. The system achieves the flexibility of use and lightness of weight as much as possible. It also achieves the highest degree of accuracy and durability in accordance with the standard global military specification. [3]

The EISS aims mostly at increasing vision and aiming capabilities of soldiers and commanders, thus their lethality. Two versions of the system are available, the Commander one and the Soldier one, many elements being the same. [2]
The Commander version is made of five elements, helmet system, weapon system, control and power, cables, and clothing kit. The helmet system sees an uncooled thermal camera fitted on the right of the helmet, the soldier seeing the generated image in its helmet mounted display. [2]
A thermal aiming sight is fitted to the assault rifle, which is linked to the control and power box, carried at the belt. Currently the control and power system is contained into a metal parallelepiped box, which is not a very ergonomic solution, but a more conformal system might be developed following trials. Rechargeable batteries are located in the box, which can be easily reloaded using a battery charger; batteries ensure up to 10 hours of power to the system. All EISS subsystems are connected via cable. The clothing is quite standard and includes the composite helmet as well as the combat suit and protections, a 2.3 litres hydration system being also part of the package. Overall, the Commander EISS has a weight of 1.5 kg. [2]
The Soldier EISS is slightly heavier, around 2 kg, as the sensors on the helmet become two, one TV-based day optical system, with a x2 magnification, and a third-generation image intensification device with x1 magnification. Images are once again shown onto the HMD in front of the soldier’s eye. In daytime, aiming is done using a visible red dot pointer, while at night this will be IR. As for weapons sights, II sights are being installed, a x3 on the RPG, a x4 on the AKM and a x6 for the general-purpose machine gun. [2]
Egypt: Currently, it is unclear how many Egyptian units will receive the final EISS product. The Egyptian Army maintains eight special forces regiments, known as “El-Sa’ka Forces” (translated to Thunderbolt Forces), comprising 24 battalions. It is possible that the initial fielding will be limited some of the country’s more secretive high-speed outfits, such as Units 777 and 999, which function in a similar role to the British SAS or the US Army’s Delta Force. A telescopic sight, commonly called a scope informally, is an optical sighting device based on a refracting telescope. It is equipped with some form of a referencing pattern – known as a reticle – mounted in a focally appropriate position in its optical system to provide an accurate point of aim. Telescopic sights are used with all types of systems that require magnification in addition to reliable visual aiming, as opposed to non-magnifying iron sights, reflector (reflex) sights, holographic sights or laser sights, and are most commonly found on long-barrel firearms, particularly rifles, usually via a scope mount. F-INSAS is India's programme to equip its infantry with state-of-the-art equipment, F-INSAS standing for Future Infantry Soldier As a System. However the Indian Army has decided to drop the F-INSAS program in favour of two separate projects. The AN/PSQ-20 Enhanced Night Vision Goggle (ENVG) is a third-generation passive monocular night vision device developed for the United States Armed Forces by ITT Exelis. It fuses image-intensifying and thermal-imaging technologies, enabling vision in conditions with very little light. The two methods can be used simultaneously or individually. The ENVG was selected by the US Army's Program Executive Office Soldier as a supporting device for the Future Force Warrior program in 2004, and is intended to replace the older AN/PVS-7 and AN/PVS-14 systems. Although more expensive and heavier than previous models, US Special Forces began using the goggles in 2008 and the US Army's 10th Mountain Division began fielding the AN/PSQ-20 in 2009. Improvements to the goggles have been attempted to make them lighter, as well as enabling the transmission of digital images to and from the battlefield.
The AN/PAS-13B Thermal Weapon Sight (TWS) is an infrared sight developed for the United States military by Raytheon. The sight is designed for use on small arms in the U.S. military's inventory, but it can also be used as a standalone observation device. The AN/PAS-13B uses thermal imaging so that it can be used day or night. Thermal imaging also allows the sight to see through smoke or fog, things that may normally obscure other night vision devices. The AN/PAS-13 first became operationally capable with the U.S. Army in 1998 and has reached a total production of 33,400 units.
Ratnik is a Russian future infantry combat system. Some components, including the communication systems and night vision technologies, have extremely limited military distribution. It is designed to improve the connectivity and combat effectiveness of combat personnel in the Russian Armed Forces. Improvements include modernised body armour, a helmet with a special eye monitor, communication systems, and special headphones. It includes 10 subsystems and 59 individual items.

The AN/PSQ-42 Enhanced Night Vision Goggle-Binocular (ENVG-B) is a third-generation passive binocular night vision device developed for the United States Army by L3Harris. It combines dual tube image-intensifying (I²) and thermal-imaging technologies into a single goggle, enabling vision in low-light conditions. The two methods can be used individually or simultaneously in a fused mode. The ENVG-B is intended to be issued to the dismounted combat arms soldiers within the Army's Brigade combat teams (BCT), and so far over 10,000 have been issued to several BCT's within the 1st Infantry Division, 2nd Infantry Division, 25th Infantry Division, 82nd Airborne Division and 101st Airborne Division. The US Marine Corps has also purchased 3,100 ENVG-B units.
