Racing career
Ekraar was sired by Red Ransom, who was standing stud in the United States at the time. His dam was Sacahuista, who won the 1987 Breeders' Cup Distaff race.
Ekraar made his debut at a maiden race held at the Newmarket Racecourse in England on July 6, 1999, of which he finished at second place behind Race Leader. From there, he won the 1999 Vintage Stakes. [3] His next victory wouldn't come until the following year when he won 3 consecutive races, two of which were graded races (Rose of Lancaster and Select). For the 2001 season; Ekraar raced in Dubai, France, England, and Hong Kong. His only win was at a listed race at Doncaster Racecourse called the Troy Stakes. [4] [3] Ekraar came in second place at the Hong Kong Vase, after being beaten by Stay Gold who caught up to him despite a 10 horse length lead at one point. [5] [6] [7]
Ekraar came within the top 5 of all races he ran in in 2002 but never could win. Ekraar only won his next victory at a handicap race on June 7, 2003, at Doncaster. Ekraar would win one more race at Newmarket before winning his final race, which was the 2003 Gran Premio del Jockey Club in Italy. [3] After this race, Ekraar would retire from racing.
Stockwell (1849–1870) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and a Leading sire in Great Britain & Ireland seven times; he was second on the sires' list a further four times during a 14-year period.
The Sires' Produce Stakes is a Brisbane Racing Club Group 2 Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-olds run at set weights over 1400 metres, at Eagle Farm Racecourse, Brisbane, Australia during the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. Total prize money is A$1,000,000.
Singspiel was an Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire best known for a series of wins in major international races in 1996 and 1997. In a racing career which lasted from September 1994 until August 1997 he won nine of his twenty races and finished second on eight occasions. After showing good, but unexceptional form in his first two seasons he emerged as a world class performer in 1996 when he won the Canadian International Stakes and Japan Cup and was named U.S. Champion Male Turf Horse. In the following season he added victories in the Dubai World Cup, Coronation Cup and International Stakes before his career was ended by injury. After his retirement from racing he had considerable success as a sire of winners before his death in 2010.
Commanche Run (1981–2005) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse. He was a versatile top-class colt who won a number of Group One races at from one and a quarter to one and three-quarter miles in the 1980s.
Pommern (1912–1935) was a British bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a racing career which lasted from 1914 to June 1916 he ran ten times and won seven races. As a three-year-old in 1915 he won the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and the wartime substitutes for The Derby and the St. Leger Stakes to win a version of the English Triple Crown. After winning his only race as a four-year-old in 1916, he was retired to stud where he had limited success.
Opera House was a British thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a racing career which lasted from October 1990 until November 1993 he ran eighteen times and won eight races. Opera House was best known for his performances as a five-year-old in 1993, when he won three Group One races, including the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and was named European Champion Older Horse. Retired to stud in Japan, he developed into a top-class sire in the country, supplying seven-time Grade 1 hero T M Opera O, four-time Group 1 winner Meisho Samson and multiple Group scorer Miyabi Ranveli.
Rodrigo de Triano was an English Thoroughbred Champion racehorse.
Mastery is a British Thoroughbred racehorse. In a racing career which lasted from October 2008 until 2010 he ran thirteen times and won five races. As a three-year-old in 2009 he won the Derby Italiano and the St Leger. In 2010 he won the Hong Kong Vase.
Intermezzo, was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He won two of his three races as a two-year-old in 1968 and went on to record his most important win in the Classic St. Leger Stakes at Doncaster in September 1969. He raced without winning in 1970 and was exported to stand as stallion in Japan, where he had some success as a sire of winners.
Petingo (1965–1976) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a racing career which lasted from June 1967 until August 1968 he ran nine times and won six races. In 1967 he was unbeaten in three starts including the Gimcrack Stakes and the Middle Park Stakes and was officially rated the best two-year-old in Britain. In the following year he was defeated by Sir Ivor in the 2000 Guineas but won the St. James's Palace Stakes and the Sussex Stakes. He was then retired to stud where he proved to be a very successful stallion before his death at the age of eleven.
Petition (1944–1964) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He was officially rated the second-best two-year-old in Britain in 1946 when he won the New Stakes, Richmond Stakes, Gimcrack Stakes and Champagne Stakes. He won on his debut in 1947 but sustained an injury when finishing unplaced in the 2000 Guineas and failed to win in two subsequent races that year. In 1948 he returned to his best form to beat a strong field in the Eclipse Stakes. He was retired to stud where he became a successful and influential breeding stallion.
Tap On Wood was an Irish-bred British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire best known for winning the classic 2000 Guineas in 1979. As a two-year-old in 1978 he won seven of his thirteen races including the National Stakes. In the following spring he defeated the outstanding miler Kris to record an upset victory in the Guineas. His later career was disrupted by illness and he appeared in only two more races, finishing unplaced in the Derby and winning the Kiveton Park Stakes. He subsequently had some success as a breeding stallion in Europe and Japan.
Sheriff's Star was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. As a two-year-old he won his first two races before establishing himself as one of the best British colts of his generation with a close second in the William Hill Futurity. In the following year he won the King Edward VII Stakes and Great Voltigeur Stakes, but was well-beaten in both the Derby and the St Leger. He reached his peak as a four-year-old in 1989 when he recorded Group One successes in both the Coronation Cup and Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. He later stood as a breeding stallion in Japan where he had some success as a sire of winners.
The Maybe Mahal Stakes raced as The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (2021), is a registered Victoria Racing Club Group 3 Thoroughbred set weights with penalties horse race for mares, over a distance of 1400 metres held annually at Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia during the VRC Spring Racing Carnival on Melbourne Cup day. Total prize money for the race is A$200,000.
Hycilla was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare, who raced during World War II and was best known for winning the classic Oaks Stakes in 1944. Unraced as a juvenile, she finished second on her three-year-old debut before winning the Oaks, which was run that year at Newmarket Racecourse. She was beaten when favourite for the St Leger but ended her year with a win in the Champion Stakes. In the following year she failed to win but ran well in defeat when third in a strongly-contested Coronation Cup. She was retired to become a broodmare in the United States but made little impact, producing four minor stakes winners.
Ginevra was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare best known for winning the 1972 Epsom Oaks. After winning two minor races as a two-year-old she improved in 1972 to win the Ladbrokes Oaks Trial before taking the Oaks. She went on to finish third in the Yorkshire Oaks and the St Leger. At the end of the year she was sold to a Japanese breeding syndicate and exported to Japan. Ginevra did not produce any notable offspring, although two of her daughters had some success as broodmares.
Hayil is an American-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire best known for his upset win in the 1997 Middle Park Stakes. As a two-year-old in England, he showed promising form in his first five starts, winning once and placing three times. On his final race of the season he was equipped with blinkers for the first time and won the Middle Park Stakes at odds of 14/1. After the death of his trainer David Morley he was transferred to France but never recovered his juvenile form and failed to win in seven subsequent races. Hayil later stood as a breeding stallion in Australia.
Rivet is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He was one of the leading European two-year-old colts of 2016 when he won three of his five races including the Champagne Stakes and the Racing Post Trophy. He failed to train on and was exported to Hong Kong where he had little success.
Powerscourt was a British-bred Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire, best known for his two runs in the Arlington Million: he was disqualified after finishing first in 2004 but returned to win the race in the following year.
Vaucluse was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. In a brief racing career which consisted of five races in three seasons she finished second on her only start as a juvenile, fell on her three-year-old debut and then recorded her first and only victory when taking the 1000 Guineas. She ran poorly when favourite for the Oaks Stakes and finished second on her only subsequent start. After her retirement from racing she had considerable influence as a broodmare.
