The MIM-104 Patriot is a mobile interceptor missile surface-to-air missile (SAM) system,the primary such system used by the United States Army and several allied states. It is manufactured by the U.S. defense contractor Raytheon and derives its name from the radar component of the weapon system. The AN/MPQ-53 at the heart of the system is known as the "Phased Array Tracking Radar to Intercept on Target",which is a backronym for "Patriot". In 1984,the Patriot system began to replace the Nike Hercules system as the U.S. Army's primary high to medium air defense (HIMAD) system and the MIM-23 Hawk system as the U.S. Army's medium tactical air defense system. In addition to these roles,Patriot has been given a function in the U.S. Army's anti-ballistic missile (ABM) system. As of 2016,the system is expected to stay fielded until at least 2040.
Anti-aircraft warfare is the counter to aerial warfare and includes "all measures designed to nullify or reduce the effectiveness of hostile air action". It encompasses surface-based,subsurface (submarine-launched),and air-based weapon systems,in addition to associated sensor systems,command and control arrangements,and passive measures. It may be used to protect naval,ground,and air forces in any location. However,for most countries,the main effort has tended to be homeland defence. Missile defence is an extension of air defence,as are initiatives to adapt air defence to the task of intercepting any projectile in flight.

Both Western and Soviet bloc countries have supplied equipment.
The 16th Regiment,Royal Australian Artillery is the Australian Army's only ground-based air defence (GBAD) unit. It also provides sense,warn and locate,ground liaison,and joint terminal attack control capabilities. Part of the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery (RAA),the regiment is responsible for protecting a wide range of military assets during wartime,ranging from Army units in the field to providing point defence to the Royal Australian Navy's support ships and air defence to Royal Australian Air Force air bases. Prior to being equipped with the currently in-service RBS 70 surface-to-air missile system,the regiment was equipped with the Rapier systems for 25 years. The regiment is based at Woodside,South Australia,but frequently deploys with other Australian and allied units on operations and defence exercises. The regiment is part of the 10th Brigade.
The AN/TPS-43 is a transportable air search 3D radar produced in the United States originally by Westinghouse Electric Corporation's Defense and Electronic Division,which was later purchased by Northrop Grumman. It is used primarily for early warning and tactical control,often for control over an associated surface-to-air missile battery or airfield. It is designed to be transported in two M35 cargo trucks and easily air-transportable on two pallets.

The Saudi Arabian Air Defense Forces or officially Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces (RSADF) is the aerial defense service branch of the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces (SAAF). It is fourth of the five service branches of the MOD. It has its HQ in Riyadh,where there is also an elaborate underground command facility that co-ordinates the kingdom's advanced "Peace Shield" radar and air defense system,with an estimated 40,000 active duty military personnel in 2015. Along with the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF),it has the responsibility for securing the skies of Saudi Arabia.
Highlands Air Force Station was a military installation in Middletown Township near the borough of Highlands,New Jersey. The station provided ground-controlled interception radar coverage as part of the Lashup Radar Network and the Semi-Automatic Ground Environment network,as well as providing radar coverage for the Highlands Army Air Defense Site. The site's 240 acres (97 ha) is now the Rocky Point section in Hartshorne Woods Park of the Monmouth County Parks System.
The AN/TPS-1 Radar was an early warning and tactical control radar developed by Bell Labs and the MIT Radiation Laboratory during World War II. Initially used by the US Army,it was later used by the United States Air Force Air Defense Command,and a number of European armed forces. A number of variations were produced by several vendors,including Western Electric,Westinghouse Electric,Bendix Corporation and several European manufacturers in the post-war era. In Royal Air Force service it was known as AMES Type 61.
Canadian Forces Station Sioux Lookout is a closed General Surveillance Radar station. It is located 3.7 miles (6.0 km) west of Sioux Lookout,Ontario. It was closed in 1987.
